HW Project Leader (m/f/d) at Harman in Ulm, Germany.
This full-time on-site position offers opportunities for career growth.
The role is part of a global HW development team and focuses on realizing automotive IVI and telematics systems.
Responsibilities
- Technical lead for hardware development projects in automotive infotainment (optional: with safety criteria).
- Lead the local HW project team and coordinate with remote locations (e. g., Bucharest, Shanghai) in close cooperation with local managers; act as the customer interface for hardware topics.
- Represent the Hardware Project Manager in internal and external meetings with customers and suppliers.
- Support HW PM in conception, commercial evaluation, and provision of technical specifications, documentation, and presentation material for Telematics and Connectivity function blocks and products.
- Assist in realizing the Hardware Development Process according to Harman BMS and SBU Hardware Development guidelines; support/perform requirement engineering, change management, documentation, and DFMEA under Harman tools.
- Analyze and evaluate customer requirements and OEM specifications for RFC, RFI, RFQ and CRs; prepare BOM estimates, effort estimation, and risk management support.
- Analyze cost-down measures to achieve HW BOM targets.
- Design and integrate system designs, schematics, and hardware applications for In-Vehicle Infotainment Systems across simple to medium complexity within Harman guidelines throughout the development process.
- Collaborate with Construction, Quality, Manufacturing and Software during development; provide maintenance and technical support for industrialization of functional items in an international environment (e. g., ODM, EMS suppliers).
- Prepare and analyze customer specifications, generate work packages for design and verification, and conduct design reviews.
- Collect, analyze, and report project data to management; execute special projects as required by the disciplinary supervisor.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications or related field).
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in HW development, verification, and industrialization of in-vehicle infotainment systems, telematics/connectivity, or automotive ECUs of similar complexity.
- Experience in project management and as technical lead of an HW team.
- Proficiency with tools for schematic/layout realization and simulation (e. g., Mentor Graphics, SPICE) and Microsoft applications.
- Knowledge of defect management tools (ticket-based systems such as Jira) and strong verbal/written English skills.
- Creative, analytical problem-solving abilities; ability to articulate complex technical topics and defend engineering decisions.
- Structured, target-oriented working style with ability to collaborate in cross-functional teams.
- Bonuses: experience in analogue, digital, RF design; RF/wireless and telematics systems; experience with DOORS, DNG, ALM for requirements management.
- Willingness to travel 10-25% and to work flexibly from office and remote locations as needed.
