The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf is inviting applications for the position of a

W3 Professorship (Chair) in Physical Chemistry of Complex Systems

to be filled on a tenured basis (tenure for life).

The announcement is aimed at nationally and internationally recognized scientists whose research focus is in a current field of the physical chemistry of complex systems. The successful candidate should master and further develop innovative experimental methods and apply them to modern questions regarding complex systems. These methods (e.g., in the fields of electrochemistry, interface analysis, diffraction, and imaging techniques) should complement those already existing at HHU Düsseldorf.

A willingness to establish existing or new research approaches in the field of sustainability and to actively develop this strategic direction of Chemistry at HHU Düsseldorf is required. Active collaboration in existing coordinated programs as well as the initiation of new programs are expected. The successful acquisition of competitive external funding, the prior successful establishment of an independent research group, and an outstanding publication record in international peer-reviewed journals are also required.

Furthermore, the successful candidate is expected to represent the field of Physical Chemistry in its full breadth across the German-taught Bachelor's and Master's degree programs in Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Business Chemistry. The willingness to participate in academic self-governance is likewise required. Applications should include a coherent research and teaching concept that also outlines connections to the strategic focus on sustainability.

Conditions for employment are, in addition to general administrative conditions in accordance with § 36 of the North Rhine-Westphalia University Act (Gesetz über die Hochschulen des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen), an aptitude for teaching, exceptional competence in research, and additional scientific achievements.
