Senior Embedded Hardware Engineer / Consumer Electronics We develop hardware that ends up in people's homes, offices, and hands. At Helbling Technik Bern, you work on complete product development cycles for international OEM customers. The work covers the full cycle, from first requirements to certified series production. Projects span consumer electronics, home and office appliances, and personal care devices. Our team of four to five engineers covers hardware, firmware, and mechanics. You own the hardware.
Role Description You take the hardware from whiteboard to factory. That means being present at the requirements stage, making the key circuit decisions, and staying involved until the product ships. Concretely:
Define the hardware architecture together with the project team and contribute from concept to series production
Capture schematics and layout PCBs in Altium Designer. The scope covers analog and digital circuits, 1.8 VDC to 1 kV, AC/DC and DC/DC converters up to approx. 200 W
Simulate circuits in LTspice; evaluate component and circuit alternatives balancing performance, cost, board space, and standards compliance
Apply DFM and DFT from the start; select and qualify components including second sources
Build and debug functional prototypes; perform hardware bring‑up
Run EMC pre‑compliance and compliance testing, and robustness testing against relevant standards (e.g. IEC 60335)
Analyze measurement data; conduct root cause analysis and resolve issues
Write technical documentation; manage requirements in Polarion and Atlassian tools
Coordinate directly with OEM partners, suppliers, and customers
We are looking for an engineer who has shipped real hardware, not just designed it. The role is open to mid‑level and senior candidates.
Background
BSc or MSc in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field
Proven track record in consumer electronics hardware, ideally in home appliances, office devices, or beauty products, from concept through production
Mid‑level: leads hardware design within a project. Senior: owns the full cycle end to end
Technical
Proficient in Altium Designer for both schematic capture and PCB layout
Solid analog and digital circuit design skills: power electronics, sensor interfaces, motor and actuator drivers
Practical EMC design knowledge: layout, filtering, shielding, and hands‑on compliance testing
Familiar with IEC 60335 or equivalent safety standards: isolation, creepage, and clearance
Nice to have: working knowledge of embedded C/C++ sufficient for daily exchange with firmware engineers
Finds the simplest solution that actually works, within cost, schedule, and space constraints
Communicates hardware decisions clearly to mechanical and firmware colleagues
Curious about how the product works in the field, not just on the bench
Languages
English: fluent, the working language of the team; German: an advantage
