Reference No. BE 2026/2

The Department Accelerator Research and Development is looking for

Engineer / Scientist (f/m/d) Injection and Extraction Systems for BESSY III

Your Tasks

  • You will plan, develop, and coordinate the engineering activities related to the static and pulsed injection and extraction systems for BESSY III.

  • You will design and develop the pulsed electromagnets (kickers and septa) for injection into the BESSY III storage ring, ensuring that they meet the required accelerator parameters using appropriate simulation tools.

  • You will prepare the technical specifications for the required equipment and support the procurement process for the pulsed magnet and pulsed power supply systems.

  • You will characterize and measure the pulsed electromagnetic fields of the first prototypes and demonstrate their long-term stability.

  • Through your work and results, you will make a significant contribution to the Technical Design Report (TDR) for BESSY III.

Your Profile

  • A completed university degree (Master's or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field; a PhD in the relevant discipline, preferably with a specialization in pulsed magnet systems and accelerator physics, is highly desirable

  • In-depth knowledge of the electrodynamics of pulsed magnets and experience with electromagnetic simulation software such asANSYS and CST Studio Suite

  • Experience in the design and engineering of pulsed electromagnets using 3D CAD systems, taking into account mechanical design, electromagnetic performance, cooling, stability, and long-term reliability

  • Hands-on experience with laboratory instrumentation and measurement techniques, particularly for the characterization and measurement of pulsed electromagnetic fields

  • Excellent proficiency in either English or German (C1 level), with good command of the other language.
