Job description:

We seek to recruit an outstanding scientist working in a current field of the chemical kinetics of molecular systems.

The scientific focus should be on the in-depth mechanistic understanding of elementary kinetic processes. Of particular interest are experimental approaches, e.g., by means of time-resolved (possibly also spatially resolved) spectroscopy, that lead to kinetic predictions over extended time and length scales. Conceivable fields of work would be, for example: electronically non-adiabatic processes with relevance to photo- or atmospheric chemistry, influencing reaction processes through non-thermal molecular energetic distributions in different phases from combustion chemistry to spatially restricted systems, optionally also reactions at very high or low temperatures and pressures.

The candidates should have a broad understanding of modern reaction kinetic measurement and modelling methods also to facilitate collaborations in existing and future research foci at KIT. Examples of such research foci are photochemistry and fluorescent imaging on the nanoscale or in biological systems, heterogeneous catalysis for emission control or energy storage, molecule-based quantum technologies, 4f-molecule chemistry, setup and application of self-driving laboratories.

University duties involve teaching obligations of 9 SWS. Furthermore, the university professorship (W3) participates in the collegial institute management of the Institute of Physical Chemistry (IPC).

This research center is part of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers. With more than 42,000 employees and an annual budget of over € 5 billion, the Helmholtz Association is Germany’s largest scientific organisation.
