Research Data Management Officer (m/f/d)

The Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research, based in Braunschweig, is a member of the Helmholtz Association and conducts cutting-edge research in the field of infectious diseases. Our scientists develop novel methods and strategies to fight infectious diseases faster and more effectively. Our common goal is to develop novel approaches for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases. Our research focuses on bacterial and viral pathogens, their interaction with the human immune system and new effective agents and vaccines.

The digital transformation has become a central challenge both in science at the HZI and in administration. The rapid technological development is revolutionizing the way life science research is conducted and how we organize a research center administratively. Above all, digitalization offers great opportunities and possibilities for new findings and better work results. However, digitalization also creates major challenges by placing new demands on HZI employees in dealing with digital tools and in areas such as information security and data protection.

The Digital Office is a newly established department in the process of being set up. Design and creative drive are both necessary and possible.

The main tasks of the department are the coordination of the HZI Digital Health activities, as well as the creation and implementation of the fields of the scientific digitization strategy and the implementation of the administrative digitization strategy. For this task, we are looking for innovative minds with a passion for design.

These tasks await you:

  1. Analysis of research processes and the data used at the HZI
  2. Conception, establishment and continuous development of research data management with metadata concepts, interoperability approaches and from the point of view of data reusability
  3. Conception, development and maintenance of an associated central infrastructure for research data management at the HZI in close cooperation with colleagues from the DO and the HZI sites
  4. Advising researchers in the field of research data management
  5. Development of exchange formats and committees for decision-making
  6. Networking of relevant internal and external stakeholders

Your qualifications and skills:

  1. Completed scientific university or master\’s degree in a subject area suitable for the task (e.g. STEM subjects)
  2. Specialist knowledge and several years of experience in the field of research data, research data management, research information systems and data repositories
  3. Knowledge of relevant interoperability standards on a semantic and technical level
  4. Good database skills and knowledge of a common database language (e.g. SQL)
  5. Basic programming skills in a common programming language (e.g. Python, Java)
  6. Very good knowledge of English and German
