Postdoc / Scientist / Research Engineer (f/m/d) for Vacuum-Based Processing of Perovskite / Silicon Tandem Solar Cells
Reference No.: SE 2026/11
At Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB), we conduct cutting-edge research and development on materials and processes for the next generation of solar cells.
Our goal is to develop technologies that combine the highest stable efficiencies with low costs and sustainable manufacturing.
One of the most promising candidates is the monolithic silicon/perovskite tandem solar cell.
At the same time, we are scaling this solar cell technology, partly in collaboration with industry partners, with the aim of achieving high efficiencies and long-term stability.
To do so, we use processes that are close to industrial manufacturing.
As a postdoctoral researcher, you will support us in this endeavour.
You can look forward to challenging tasks in a rapidly evolving field of technology.
We offer a well-equipped working environment and the opportunity to join a highly motivated team.
- Your Tasks
- You will design and coordinate experiments as well as perform hands-on lab work for the processing of perovskite/silicon tandem solar cells using vacuum-based methods for the perovskite deposition.
- You will characterize and analyze layers and devices, carry out loss analyses and give direction to further experiments.
- You will report results and publish them in scientific journals and at conferences.
- You will support project work, draw up reports and presentations, and prepare proposals for follow-up projects.
- You might supervise and train students and technicians.
Your Profile
- Ph D in physics, electrical engineering or related field
- Background in vacuum-deposition (PVD), thin-film technology and semiconductor device physics and technology
- Background in vacuum-based processing of perovskites
- Technology enthusiast with focus on industrial PVD processes and solar cells
- Excellent team player and communicator
- Relevant PV industry experience is highly appreciated
- English proficiency at C1 level or higher
- Your Benefits at HZB
At Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin, you will benefit from a collaborative international environment, state-of-the-art research facilities, and a wide range of benefits to support your scientific career:
- The opportunity to contribute to the development of innovative materials and technological solutions for a climate-neutral future in cooperation with leading international researchers
- Flexible working hours and the possibility to work remotely
- Career-enhancing networking opportunities, individual guidance, and support through our Graduate Center and Postdoc Office
- 30 days of vacation per year and attractive remuneration according to the collective agreement for the public sector (TVöD Bund), plus company pension plan
- Advisory services on family and career matters through our Office for Work & Life
- Subsidy for the public transport “Deutschlandticket Job” and exclusive employee discounts
- Relocation support from non-EU countries
- German and English courses for all proficiency levels
Fixed term contract for 24 months. The salary is based on the Collective Agreement for the German Public Service (TVöD-Bund).
We very much want our workplace to be diverse, and welcome applications from people with different backgrounds.
It is our mission to promote equal opportunities and to improve women’s representation in the workforce.
