Postdoc (f/m/d) – Accelerator Physics / Engineering
Reference No.: BE 2024/22
Would you like to advance research in curing tumour diseases through your work? Are you looking for a job that never gets boring and offers you the chance to constantly develop yourself? Is it important to you to have a team from which you can learn and that you can rely on?
The proton irradiation centre at HZB in Berlin-Wannsee is Germany’s first proton therapy facility and unique in its technical capability. We treat patients with eye tumours with proton beams since 1998 in cooperation with the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Campus Benjamin Franklin. In addition to treatment operation, we are involved in research, e.g., beam delivery for FLASH-irradiations and minibeams, dosimetry, and accelerator development.
As Postdoc, you will be responsible for the ion sources and injectors of the cyclotron. ECR-sources and Duoplasmatrons, which provide hydrogen and helium ions, are available on site. A Tandetron, and a 6 MV Van-de-Graaff serve as injectors. With us, you can expect diverse and meaningful tasks in applied research and technology as well as working conditions that allow very good work-life balance.
Your Tasks
- You will further develop the ion sources and the injectors.
- You will perform beam dynamic simulations.
- You will characterize the beam and match it to the cyclotron.
- You will participate in experiments that require special beam parameters.
- You will present your results in project meetings, national and international conferences, and publish them in scientific journals and reports.
Your Profile
- Successfully completed a PhD in the area of physics or engineering, no longer than 6 years ago.
- Knowledge and experience in the field of accelerators.
- High level of social competence and ability to work in a team.
- A pronounced interest in physical processes and not being afraid to find your own creative solutions to a problem.
- Very good German and English speaking, listening, and writing abilities and the will to learn further for optimal communication in the team.
Your Benefits
- Work-life balance.
- Flexible work hours with flexitime.
- 39-hour week.
- 30 days paid leave.
- Comprehensive counselling services for family and career.
- Health management and company sports programmes.
- Financial support for public transport (Deutschland-Ticket Jobticket).
- Continuing education opportunities.
- A company pension scheme (VBL).
- And a team that looks forward to meeting you!
