Scientist (f/m/d) for Synchrotron/X-ray/Neutron Tomography and 3D Analytics

Reference No.: CE 2026/9

In our interdisciplinary team, we develop novel AI‑assisted analysis methods for time‑resolved synchrotron‑ and neutron‑based tomographic (4D) measurements, with a particular focus on applications in battery and hydrogen research. As a researcher, you will support our team and work on the development and application of 4D analysis and operando synchrotron and neutron tomography techniques.

Your Tasks

  • You will use modern 2D/3D/4D analysis and evaluation methods with special 3D software using machine learning tools such as neural networks.
  • You will perform quantitative analyses on existing large amounts of operando 4D tomographic data and improve the evaluation algorithms in close collaboration with other experts.
  • You will use 4D operando X‑ray/synchrotron as well as neutron tomography techniques to study batteries and other material systems.
  • You will work in an interdisciplinary team with several other research groups in Germany.

Your Profile

  • Completed studies in materials science or similar.
  • Very good knowledge of tomographic synchrotron/X‑ray and neutron measurement techniques.
  • Excellent knowledge and many years of experience of 3D evaluation methods and 3D analysis software, especially with VGStudioMax.
  • Good publication record.
  • Good teamwork skills and willingness to work in an interdisciplinary environment.
  • Very good command of English (C1 level) and good command of German (B2 level).
  • Experience in presenting scientific results.

Your Benefits

  • Opportunity to contribute to the development of innovative materials and technological solutions for a climate‑neutral future in cooperation with leading international researchers.
  • Flexible working hours and the possibility to work remotely.
  • Career‑enhancing networking opportunities, individual guidance, and support through our Graduate Centre and Postdoc Office.
  • 30 days of vacation per year and attractive remuneration according to the collective agreement for the public sector (TVöD Bund), plus a company pension plan.
