We are looking for a
Research Associate/PhD Researcher – State Reform in Germany (gn)
part-time (20 hours/week), to start as of 01 February 2025 the earliest. The successful candidate will contribute to the recently launched non-partisan “Initiative für einen Handlungsfähigen Staat “, under the patronage of the Federal President of Germany. It aims to develop recommendations to strengthen state and democracy in Germany. The initiative, funded by four leading foundations in Germany, is coordinated and supported by an office (Geschäftsstelle) based at the Hertie School.
Responsibilities:
- Supporting the two heads of the Geschäftsstelle and the four initiators in organizational issues to ensure a smooth running of the initiative.
- Organizing and coordinating the work of the working groups (especially setting up the meetings and organizing the transcripts of the meetings).
- Conducting research on publications, events, and other activities relevant for the initiative.
- Organizing stakeholder involvement activities planned as part of the initiative.
- Liaising with the four initiators, the foundations, and the members of the working groups.
Minimum Requirements:
- An excellent university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Public Administration, (Public) Management, Public Policy, Public Law, International Affairs, or a related field;
- Knowledge of and affinity with German public policy and public administration practice;
- Proven project management, communication, and presentation skills including experience in writing short reports;
- Native-level German skills are required for this position.
