Join the Embedded AI research group, led by Prof. João Paulo Cardoso de Lima, at the Chair of Hardware/Software Co-Design at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU). We are seeking a Doctoral Researcher in the area of Design Automation for Embedded AI.
- Full-time, temporary position (3 years), with the opportunity to pursue a doctorate.
- Start date: as soon as possible.
The Chair of Hardware/Software Co-Design investigates methodologies for the design and optimization of computing systems with particular demands on availability, performance, and security.
Your Tasks and Opportunities
You will conduct research at the intersection of embedded computer architecture and AI systems, developing efficient hardware-software solutions for future computing platforms. The position focuses on Processing-in-Memory (PIM) architectures and compiler infrastructure for low-power, high-performance execution of AI workloads. Topics include, but are not limited to:
- Hardware-aware AI algorithms and approximate arithmetic techniques
- Hardware-software co-design, system-level design space exploration, and compiler optimization.
- Formal verification, neurosymbolic AI, and generative AI in the system design loop
You are also expected to take part in administrative tasks, teaching, and the supervision of student work.
Your Profile
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong background in computer architecture, and skills and interest in system-level design automation, and FPGA/ASIC design tools.
- Skills and interest in parallel computing and compilation (e.g., LLVM/Clang, MLIR).
- Enjoyment of teamwork, an open and communicative attitude, and interest in both the methodical and practical aspects of embedded systems, hardware/software co-design, and optimization.
- High proficiency in written and spoken English.
Remarks
- Severely disabled applicants with equivalent qualifications will be given preference. FAU is an equal opportunities employer and places particular emphasis on fostering the careers of women. Qualified women are therefore strongly encouraged to apply.
