YOUR ROLE

  • You will be responsible for representing the field of Mathematics and Quantitative Methods in the future Faculty of Management, Governance, and Media, focusing on Mathematics, Statistics, advanced Quantitative Methods, and Operations Research.
  • Supervise students working on their Bachelor’s and Master’s theses.
  • Active involvement in the organisation and further development of the B.Sc. Logistics/Technical Business Administration and M.Sc. International Logistics and Management courses.
  • Participation in academic self-administration, further education, and international university collaborations.
  • Participation in publications and empirical research activities is desired.
  • Engage with related and adjacent areas of application and integrate them into research and teaching.
  • Co-operate with other disciplines and develop interdisciplinary approaches.

YOUR PROFILE

  • Degree in Quantitative Methods, particularly in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Business Mathematics, or Data Science with a focus on economics, or a degree in Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, or Business Informatics with a relevant specialisation.
  • Demonstrated ability for academic work through a doctoral degree in the relevant subject area.
  • Professional experience with a clear connection to the subject areas of the professorship, especially in the practical application of mathematical and statistical methods.
  • Leadership experience in a non-academic professional career is ideal.
  • Ability to represent the field of Quantitative Methods in a scientifically sound manner in both research and teaching.
  • In-depth knowledge of the methodology and application of artificial intelligence is desirable.
  • Evidence of publications and research activities in the relevant subject area is ideal.
  • Experience in teaching and the use of new (media-)didactic concepts, as well as proficiency in common statistical software.
  • Effective teamwork and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Intercultural competences, particularly in dealing with cultural differences between students.
  • Ability to teach in German (minimum language level C1) and in English.

INFORMATION

  • Appointment requirements in accordance with Section 15 Para. 1-6 of the Hamburg Higher Education Act (HmbHG) apply.
  • Willingness to participate in self-administration committees of the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences and reside in proximity to the university.
  • The denomination of the vacant post is subject to assessment at appropriate intervals in accordance with Section 12 Para 7 HmbHG.
  • Basic salary of grade W2 and performance benefits are negotiable.
  • Tenured officials may be appointed if under 50 at the time of appointment; otherwise, the employment relationship will be standard.
