Full S-Professor (W3) in “Explainable AI”

at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin in combination with the position of a

Head of Research Unit “Explainable AI”

at the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute.

The position will be filled at the earliest possible date.

We are seeking a researcher with an excellent track record in methods, models, and algorithms for explainable and trustworthy artificial intelligence (AI). Candidates could have a strong background in the foundations of explainable AI or focus on systems-related aspects and applications. Topics of interest include:

  • methods for deep explanation and explainable features
  • interpretable and explainable machine learning
  • explainability in large generative models
  • trustworthy AI
  • adaptability and robustness for AI techniques
  • commonsense reasoning and decision making
  • applications of explainable AI
  • transparency and fairness of AI systems

The position involves teaching, with a reduced load, at the Department of Computer Science in relevant study programs.

Applicants should have experience in leading research groups, international collaborations, managing scientific projects, and securing third-party funding. Strong teaching skills are highly valued. Candidates are expected to participate in cooperative research initiatives, such as Research Training Groups, Collaborative Research Centers, or centers like BIFOLD.

The legal requirements for professorial appointments according to § 100 of the “Berliner Hochschulgesetz” must be met.
