About the Role

Are you an experienced tax professional seeking a long-term career opportunity within an expanding, highly collaborative tax practice?

We are looking for a dedicated Steuerfachangestellte/r or Steuerfachwirt/in to join a supportive, multi-generational team based in Bamberg. In this pivotal position, you will play a central role in managing client accounting and payroll operations, overseeing diverse business portfolios, and actively driving the firm's ongoing digital transition and process optimization within DATEV. If you desire a role with substantial autonomy, adaptable working hours, and clear personal accountability—including the option to step into a leadership function within payroll—we welcome your application!

Key Responsibilities

Financial Accounting & Statements

  • Oversee full financial accounting (Finanzbuchhaltung) and prepare draft annual financial statements for an assigned portfolio of small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) clients across various industry sectors.

Payroll Accounting & Ownership

  • Manage accurate monthly payroll processing (Lohnbuchhaltung) and optionally take on a lead role overseeing practice-wide payroll operations and complex tax topics.

DATEV Optimization & System Migration

  • Actively support and help structure the ongoing transition of client mandates and payroll workflows to DATEV, maximizing the use of digital DATEV modules across the firm.

Client Advisory

  • Function as a primary, trusted point of contact for corporate clients regarding routine accounting, payroll inquiries, and general financial matters.

Quality Assurance & Collaboration

  • Review accounting deliverables from junior team members where appropriate, track statutory tax deadlines, and continuously refine internal office processes.

Optional Mandate Expansion

  • Opportunity to onboard and independently manage your own client mandates if desired, directly contributing to the firm's commercial growth.

Candidate Profile

Must-Haves

  • Education & Qualification: Successfully completed vocational training as a Tax Clerk (Ausbildung als Steuerfachangestellte/r). Advanced qualifications such as Tax Specialist (Steuerfachwirt/in) or Certified Accountant (Bilanzbuchhalter/in) are welcome, provided you hold a foundational tax clerk background.
  • DATEV Proficiency: Multiple years of practical, hands-on experience utilizing DATEV applications (spanning both accounting and payroll software suites).
  • Payroll Expertise: Solid operational experience in handling payroll and a strong readiness to manage payroll duties as part of your regular schedule.
  • Language Skills: C1 level or higher German fluency to communicate clearly with clients, internal colleagues, and municipal tax authorities.
  • On-site Presence: Commitment to working primarily on-site in Bamberg (with ad-hoc remote work options by mutual agreement following onboarding), living in or within reasonable daily commuting distance.
  • Mindset: Collaborative team-oriented attitude, high personal drive, and a practical, hands-on approach to daily responsibilities.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Successfully completed advanced qualification as a Steuerfachwirt/in.
  • Hands-on experience with software implementation, process automation, or digital tax office workflows.
  • Professional ambition and capability to take on a functional management role within the firm's payroll unit.
  • Ability or interest in bringing an existing client mandate portfolio to the firm (optional).

What We Offer (Core Benefits)

Attractive Compensation

  • Competitive annual gross salary between €36,000 and €60,000 (monthly gross pay ranging from €3,000 to €5,000 based on experience and professional qualifications).

Work-Life Balance & Flexibility

  • Flexible scheduling options ranging from 25 to 40 hours per week, 30 paid annual vacation days, and ad-hoc home office flexibility post-onboarding.

Long-Term Security

  • Permanent employment contract (full-time or part-time) within a stable, growing tax office led by three active tax partners (Berufsangehörige).

Great Office Culture

  • A welcoming, family-like working environment featuring a diverse, multi-generational team, helpful peers, and regular company social events (including summer gatherings and holiday celebrations).
