The Role
We are looking for a Quality Inspector to join our team in Hamburg.
In this role, you will ensure incoming materials and components meet Coherent's quality standards before entering production.
Working closely with Production, Engineering, Supply Chain and Supplier Quality, you will play a key role in maintaining product quality, supporting supplier performance, and driving continuous improvement across inspection processes.
You will be responsible for
- Performing incoming inspections, warehouse inspections and First Article Inspections (FAI) in accordance with inspection plans, engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Approving or rejecting materials based on quality requirements and maintaining accurate inspection records.
- Identifying, documenting and managing quality non-conformances, including creating and following up Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs).
- Managing material hold and quarantine processes to prevent non-conforming materials from entering production.
- Supporting root cause investigations, corrective actions and containment activities to minimise quality risks.
- Providing inspection data and quality feedback to support supplier performance and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Participating in supplier audits and evaluating supplier corrective actions where required.
- Working collaboratively with Production, Engineering, Supply Chain, Global Logistics and other cross-functional teams to resolve quality issues.
- Contributing to the continuous improvement of inspection methods, quality processes and inspection strategies, including initiatives such as Skip‑Lot inspection.
About You
You are a detail‑oriented quality professional who enjoys working in a manufacturing environment and is committed to maintaining high standards.
You have a structured approach to problem‑solving, are confident making quality‑related decisions, and work effectively with colleagues across multiple functions.
You will also have
- Completed technical vocational training, such as Mechanical Technician, Mechatronics Technician, Electronics Technician, or an equivalent qualification.
- Several years of experience in quality inspection within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with incoming inspection, First Article Inspection (FAI) and Non‑Conformance Report (NCR) processes.
- The ability to read and interpret technical drawings and engineering specifications.
- Experience using inspection and measuring equipment.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and ERP systems, preferably Oracle.
- Good written and spoken German; English language skills are advantageous.
- Strong quality awareness and attention to detail.
- Analytical thinking and a structured approach to work.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- A proactive mindset with a high level of ownership and accountability.
