Coherent is a global leader in photonics, developing advanced laser, optical and materials technologies that enable semiconductor manufacturing, AI infrastructure, advanced communications and precision industrial applications worldwide.

In Germany, our teams combine engineering excellence, advanced manufacturing and applied R&D to deliver high-precision laser and optical solutions for customers across the automotive, semiconductor, electronics and advanced manufacturing industries.

The Role:

As part of our technical manufacturing organisation, you will play an important role in ensuring the stability, quality and continuous improvement of our advanced laser manufacturing processes.

You will work hands-on with Production, Technical Experts, Quality and Engineering to investigate complex technical issues, identify root causes and implement sustainable solutions. From supporting day-to-day production and resolving test failures to process validation and new product introduction, you will help ensure our manufacturing processes remain robust, efficient and ready to support serial production.

What you will be doing

  • Analyse, verify and resolve technical issues affecting machines, equipment and manufacturing processes using structured problem-solving methodologies, including Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
  • Provide hands‑on production floor support, implementing immediate corrective actions while developing sustainable long‑term solutions with Production and cross‑functional teams.
  • Investigate end‑of‑line test failures and field returns, identifying root causes and coordinating appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
  • Evaluate material and process deviations (NCRs/Deviations), prepare the required documentation and coordinate follow‑up activities.
  • Monitor and analyse manufacturing processes, identifying and implementing improvements to increase process stability, quality and efficiency.
  • Develop, execute and document validation activities, including validation plans, pilot builds, measurements, data analysis and reporting.
  • Support new product introductions and production ramp‑ups, helping ensure process readiness and successful implementation into serial production.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives (CIP/Kaizen) across manufacturing, testing, adjustment and other technical processes.
  • Create, maintain and improve work instructions, process documentation and visual operating procedures.
  • Collaborate closely with Technical Experts, Production, Quality, Engineering and other stakeholders to develop and implement robust technical solutions.

About You:

You are a technically strong and analytical problem‑solver who enjoys working close to Production and getting hands‑on with complex technical challenges. You combine a strong understanding of laser and optical technologies with a structured, quality‑focused approach to manufacturing and process improvement.

You will bring:

  • A strong academic qualification in Physics, Laser Technology, Physical Engineering or a related technical discipline from a university or university of applied sciences; alternatively, several years of relevant professional experience in laser construction, analysis, assembly production, engineering or as a Technical Expert.
  • Very good knowledge of optics and laser technology.
  • Very good knowledge of optical, mechanical and electronic measurement technologies.
  • Good knowledge of mechanics and technical design.
  • Strong analytical and structured problem‑solving skills.
  • A quality‑conscious, customer‑oriented and solution‑focused approach.
