Senior Staff Firmware Engineer – Power Electronics Control
Your Role
In this role, you will develop and support firmware for digital power control solutions, working closely with hardware teams and customers to deliver robust, high-performance power conversion systems.
Less experience with potential candidates are also welcomed.
Key responsibilities in your new role
- Firmware Development & Control Implementation
- Develop, customize, and maintain embedded firmware for power electronic control applications (IBC / HVIBC preferred).
- Implement and tune digital control loops, protections, sequencing, telemetry, and state machines for various topologies.
- Optimize performance (efficiency, transient response, stability, fault behavior) across operating conditions.
- Work across different programming environments and toolchains; adapt quickly to new platforms and coding ecosystems.
- Application Bring-up, Debugging & Validation
- Create test plans and execute validation for firmware releases, patches, and new features.
- Debug complex system-level issues using embedded debugging techniques and lab equipment (e.g., scope, logic analyzer, power analyzer).
- Perform root-cause analysis and drive corrective actions in firmware and/or system integration.
- Joint Commissioning with Hardware Team
- Support board bring-up and joint commissioning activities with hardware/power teams.
- Align firmware parameters with hardware design constraints (sensing, gate drive, protection thresholds, component tolerances).
- Contribute to system integration reviews and readiness for customer delivery.
- Customer Interaction & Technical Support
- Provide technical support for customer programs: configuration, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
- Communicate clearly under time pressure; drive issues to closure with structured updates and action plans.
- Participate in customer meetings, lab sessions, and occasional travel for on-site debug/commissioning.
- Documentation & Knowledge Sharing
- Document firmware architecture, configuration guidelines, test results, and debug procedures.
- Create or maintain application notes, release notes, and example/reference code as needed.
- Share knowledge within the team to improve reuse, quality, and speed of execution.
Your Profile
Qualifications and skills to help you succeed
- BSEE/MSEE in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
- 4–6 years of experience in firmware development for power electronics control (digital power / embedded control).
- Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems; comfortable working across multiple IDEs/toolchains and programming environments.
- Solid understanding of power conversion fundamentals and digital control (PWM, ADC sampling, loop compensation concepts, protections).
- Strong curiosity and problem-solving mindset: you proactively ask “why”, explore new applications, and challenge assumptions constructively.
- Experience with IBC development (HVIBC is a plus).
- Nice-to-have topology know-how: Totem-pole PFC, LLC, multi-phase/multiple buck, PSZVS / soft-switching concepts (or similar advanced DC/DC and AC/DC architectures).
- Hands-on experience collaborating with hardware teams during bring-up and commissioning.
- Customer-facing capability: dynamic communication, structured troubleshooting, and ability to work under pressure; willingness to travel occasionally.
