To strengthen and further develop our international activities in sulphur recovery and sulphuric acid technologies, we are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager with strong technical expertise and proven project execution capabilities.
Your Role
As Senior Project Manager – Sulphur Recovery & Sulphuric Acid Technologies, you will take responsibility for the technical and commercial management of international industrial plant projects.
Your focus will include sulphur recovery units (SRU), sulphuric acid production plants, sulphur handling systems and associated process technologies.
You will manage projects from initial concept development through engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning, working closely with customers, technology licensors, engineering partners and equipment suppliers.
In addition to project execution, you will contribute to the development of new business opportunities and the expansion of our technical capabilities in these specialised markets.
Your Responsibilities
- Lead and manage international engineering and plant construction projects in sulphur recovery and sulphuric acid production.
- Coordinate feasibility studies, basic and detailed engineering, procurement, construction supervision and commissioning.
- Provide technical expertise in sulphur recovery technologies, including the Claus Process, Tail Gas Treatment Units (TGTU) and associated systems.
- Support projects involving sulphur combustion, SO₂/SO₃ conversion, gas cleaning, absorption and sulphuric acid production.
- Manage multidisciplinary engineering teams, technology licensors, equipment suppliers and subcontractors.
- Review and coordinate process designs, PFDs, P&IDs, equipment specifications and technical documentation.
- Take responsibility for project budgets, schedules, quality, contractual obligations and risk management.
- Participate in technical and commercial negotiations with customers and international partners.
- Support the preparation of technical proposals, project cost estimates and commercial offers.
- Identify opportunities for process optimisation, energy efficiency and environmental performance improvements.
- Coordinate site activities, installation, commissioning and plant start-up when required.
- Ensure compliance with applicable technical standards, environmental requirements and process safety regulations.
Your Profile
- Degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a comparable technical discipline.
- At least 10 years of professional experience in sulphur recovery, sulphuric acid production or closely related chemical process industries.
- Proven experience in managing international industrial plant engineering or EPC projects.
- Strong technical knowledge of sulphur recovery technologies.
- Experience with sulphur handling, gas treatment, heat recovery and emission control systems.
- Good understanding of engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and plant start-up.
- Experience in coordinating technology licensors, international suppliers and engineering partners.
- Strong commercial awareness, including project budgeting, cost control, contract management and risk assessment.
- Excellent command of English; German and additional languages are an advantage.
- Willingness to travel internationally and undertake extended assignments at customer sites when required.
- Strong leadership, communication and negotiation skills.
- Independent, structured and solution-oriented working style.
- Intercultural competence and the ability to work effectively with international teams and customers.
