Innosuisse is the Swiss Innovation Agency that supports SMEs, start-ups, research institutions and other Swiss organisations in their research and development activities. Innosuisse is a springboard for national or international innovation. It facilitates collaboration and knowledge transfer to develop promising new products and services.
Experts support the Innovation Council (IC) in evaluating funding applications and monitoring supported projects. They are responsible for providing recommendations on funding applications submitted to Innosuisse.
The engagement of Innovation Experts is a public-law mandate relationship with Innosuisse, in accordance with the Federal Act on the Swiss Innovation Agency (Innosuisse Act, SR 420.2), Article 10 paragraph 5. Required profile Demonstrated skills in scientific research and the ability to evaluate innovative endeavours in quantum technologies. Excellent professional track record in science-based innovation with a focus on quantum technologies, preferably with experience in both the private and academic sectors. Experience in implementing or evaluating science-based innovations and/or research and development of products and services in the following areas of expertise: quantum communication, quantum computation and simulation, quantum sensing and metrology, materials for quantum devices or quantum control hardware, software and systems. A good knowledge of the Swiss ecosystem and Switzerland’s university and research landscape; this includes an understanding of interdisciplinary collaborations across the Swiss and international quantum ecosystem (research organisations, start-ups, SMEs, corporates) and key application domains. Advanced knowledge of the latest developments and trends in their area of expertise, and up-to-date knowledge of best practices in business, product and service development; for quantum technologies, this includes a good understanding of scientific and technological roadmaps, international initiatives and competitors, and realistic paths from prototypes to scalable products and services. Ability to assess the innovation degree, potential, value and viability of new business ideas, product developments and services from a commercial and investor’s perspective as well as to critically review project plans, budgets and the adequacy of costs; Experience with knowledge and technology transfer agreements from academia to the private sector and/or start-ups is a significant plus.
Responsiveness and reliability For the duration of their term of office, experts must be willing and able to commit to an appropriate amount of work for Innosuisse and observe the deadlines set by Innosuisse. Innosuisse generally expects a response time within 48 hours, a workload of up to 10%, and the completion of an evaluation within 7 to 14 days. Workload may vary over time, with occasional peaks depending on call volumes.
Language, Integrity, Diversity Ability to understand and write in at least one Swiss national language as well as in English; competence in additional national languages is a significant plus. Innosuisse expects experts to comply with all applicable legal requirements. With regard to the selection of experts, reference is made to Article 8(1) of the “Election regulations for the election of experts”. Integrity and the avoidance of conflicts of interest are fundamental requirements. In addition, experts must be of good reputation, demonstrate high standards of professional and scientific integrity, and be willing to fully disclose any vested interests. As part of the selection process, a background check may be conducted. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide their consent before any such check is carried out.
