We are looking for a

Principal System Architect – Medium Voltage Drives to provide technical leadership for the system architecture and development of next-generation high-power and medium-voltage drive systems.

This is a highly technical, system-level role focused on the architecture and performance of

Medium Voltage Drives (MV Drives) and large industrial drive systems .

The successful candidate will bring deep expertise across power electronics, converter topologies, power cells, rectifier and inverter systems, control architecture, motor-drive interaction, thermal management, protection, system integration and grid requirements .

You will work across multiple engineering disciplines to define robust and competitive drive-system architectures, solve complex system-level technical problems, and guide the development of next-generation MV drive platforms for demanding industrial applications.

Key Responsibilities1.

  • Medium Voltage Drive System Architecture
  • Lead the top-level system architecture of next-generation Medium Voltage Drive systems.
  • Define system-level architectures covering: Input/rectifier topology, DC-link and power conversion architecture, Inverter and power-cell configuration, Multilevel converter topologies, Control and protection architecture, Cooling and thermal management, Cabinet and mechanical system architecture, and Auxiliary systems and interfaces.
  • Define system-level technical requirements and performance targets based on application, motor and grid characteristics.
  • Evaluate architectural trade-offs between efficiency, reliability, power density, harmonic performance, fault tolerance, maintainability and cost .
  • Drive system architecture from concept and simulation through prototype validation and product industrialization.
  • Provide technical leadership in high-power converter and MV drive technologies.
  • Evaluate and develop advanced converter topologies, including multilevel voltage-source inverter (VSI) architectures and related high-power conversion technologies .
  • Define and optimize:, Power semiconductor and power-cell architecture, Rectifier and front-end solutions, DC-link architecture, Inverter topology, Switching strategies, Protection concepts, and Thermal design.
  • Understand the impact of semiconductor devices, power modules, switching frequency and topology on overall system performance and reliability.
  • Identify opportunities for improvements in efficiency, power density, reliability and system cost .
  • 3. Drive Control & System-Level Performance
  • Define the system-level control architecture of MV drive systems in cooperation with control software and power electronics teams.
  • Understand the interaction between: Converter topology, Motor characteristics, Load dynamics, Control algorithms, Grid characteristics, and Protection systems.
  • Provide technical direction on advanced drive-control concepts such as: Vector control, Direct torque control.

Sensorless control.

Active front end / regenerative operation, Harmonic mitigation, Grid interaction and power quality.

  • Diagnose and resolve complex system-level issues involving motor-drive interaction, resonance, harmonics, instability, thermal limitations and protection .
  • 4. Application & System Integration
  • Develop system solutions for demanding high-power industrial applications such as: Compressors, Pumps, Fans, Mills, Extruders, Marine propulsion, Mining and metals, Oil & gas, Cement and other heavy industries.
  • Understand the relationship between drive-system architecture and the characteristics of the driven equipment.
  • Define system interfaces between the drive, motor, transformer, switchgear, control system and plant-level automation systems.
  • Support the technical evaluation of complex customer applications and provide system-level engineering solutions.
  • 5. Reliability, Protection & Compliance
  • Define system-level reliability and protection concepts for MV drive platforms.
  • Analyze critical failure modes across power electronics, control, cooling and auxiliary systems.
  • Establish appropriate protection strategies for: Semiconductor failures, Overcurrent and overvoltage, DC-link faults, Ground faults, Motor faults, Grid disturbances, and Thermal events.
  • Ensure drive-system architectures comply with relevant international standards and grid requirements.
  • Support global certification and compliance activities for MV drive products.
  • 6. Technology Roadmap & Technical Leadership
  • Monitor global developments in

MV drives, large drives, power electronics and industrial electrification .

  • Define technology roadmaps for next-generation MV drive platforms.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies including: Advanced power semiconductor technologies, New multilevel converter topologies, Higher switching-frequency technologies, Advanced cooling solutions, Digital condition monitoring, Predictive maintenance, and Data-driven drive optimization.
  • Lead technical investigations into critical system-level challenges and identify breakthrough solutions.
  • Establish system-level technical standards and reusable architecture principles across product platforms.
  • Mentor senior engineers and provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary R&D teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's, Master's or Ph D degree in

Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Control Engineering or a closely related discipline.

10+ years of professional experience in Medium Voltage Drives, High-Power Drives, Large Drives or closely related power-conversion systems.

  • Strong hands-on experience in the design and development of

MV / high-power drive systems .

  • Deep understanding of: Power converter topologies, Voltage Source Inverters (VSI), Multilevel converters, Rectifier / front-end systems, Power cells, DC-link systems, Power semiconductors, Drive control architecture, Motor-drive interaction, and Protection systems.
  • Strong understanding of the complete MV drive system rather than expertise limited to a single subsystem.
  • Experience defining or reviewing system-level architectures and technical requirements for large drive products.
  • Strong ability to analyze complex system-level technical problems and drive solutions across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Good understanding of electrical machines and their interaction with high-power drive systems.
  • Familiarity with industrial power systems, grid characteristics and relevant international standards.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with

Medium Voltage Drives/Large Drives from leading manufacturers.

  • Experience with high-power industrial drive products in the

MW-class .

  • Experience with advanced multilevel converter architectures.
  • Experience with active front end (AFE), regenerative drives or grid-connected power converters .
  • Experience in motor-drive system optimization and high-power industrial applications.
  • Experience with system-level simulation tools such as

MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, PSCAD, or equivalent .

  • Experience in technical leadership, system architecture or principal engineering roles.
  • International R&D experience and the ability to collaborate across European and Asian engineering teams.
