The IAB – Institute for Applied Construction Research Weimar is an innovative and successful business-oriented research institute focussing on the development of new equipment, processes and materials for the construction industry. With over 100 employees, we have been supporting our partners and customers for 30 years with practical research and development as well as application-orientated services.For the Department of Intelligent Systems, we are looking for a Head of Department with a focus on Data Science, AI Systems, and 3D Reconstruction as soon as possible.
- Leadership and strategic development of the Department of Intelligent Systems with a focus on Computer Vision, Data Science, and 3D Reconstruction
- Coordination of research and development projects with an application focus on the construction industry, construction material recycling, and agricultural robotics
- Acquisition of third-party funding and industrial contracts (particularly in the technology and startup sectors)
- Development of new research approaches and project ideas
- Interdisciplinary collaboration with other departments within the institute
- Completed degree in a STEM field (ideally with a PhD)
- Extensive professional experience in Data Science and Computer Vision
- Leadership and project management experience (preferably in a research or development environment)
- Very good knowledge of Python or comparable programming languages
- Experience in the acquisition and implementation of publicly funded projects
- Independent, structured working style with a high level of responsibility
- Strong communication skills, teamwork abilities, and negotiation proficiency in both German and English (C1+ level)
- Passion for developing innovative technologies and leading a team
- Experience with GPU servers, language models, and edge devices is an advantage
