The IAB – Institute for Applied Construction Research Weimar is an innovative and successful business-oriented research institute focusing on the development of new equipment, processes, and materials for the construction industry. With over 100 employees, we have been supporting our partners and customers with practical research and development as well as application-oriented services for 30 years.

For the Department of Mechanical Engineering, we are looking for a research assistant in the field of signal and image processing with the option of becoming deputy head of department at the earliest possible date.

Responsibilities

  • Processing and coordination of development and research projects in the field of electrical, plant and process engineering with a focus on 3D concrete printing, mineral foam technology, and building material recycling technology.
  • Image and signal processing from micro to macro level in 2D/3D, including complex solution approaches and AI-based classification methods.
  • Acquisition and evaluation of process variables from analogue and digital signals and bus systems (e.g. Modbus TCP/IP).
  • Optional: assumption of management responsibility as deputy head of department.

Qualifications

  • Completed degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mechatronics, Computer Science, or a comparable field with a focus on signal and image processing (e.g. preprocessing, feature extraction, 2D/3D measurements, object classification).
  • Proficient in LabVIEW and programming skills in Python or C.
  • Experience in the acquisition and processing of measurement data is desirable.
  • Independent and goal-oriented working style with a high degree of personal responsibility.
  • Enjoyment in solving complex information technology tasks.
  • Good language skills in German (B2) and English (B1) in spoken and written form.
  • Confident appearance in a business environment.
  • Teamwork and communication skills.
  • Optional: experience in team leadership.
