Institute for Bioprocessing and Analytical Measurement Techniques e.V. (iba) is a non‑university research institute of the Free State of Thuringia and a partner institute of TU Ilmenau. Within the research profile “Biotechniques at Interfaces” we focus on engineering molecular and cellular methods for disease modelling and patient‑specific medicine.

We offer a 6‑month internship to draft a Master thesis (Kennziffer: 2025‑19_M‑HSC‑BW‑J). The position focuses on the development of a 3‑D on‑chip model of a bone‑marrow stem‑cell niche.

Responsibilities

  • Literature research on 2D and 3D cell culture methods on‑chip
  • Set up a chip module to represent a haematopoietic stem‑cell niche and integrate functionalised scaffolds
  • Develop a protocol for on‑chip model creation
  • Establish expression markers to characterise different cell types
  • Perform systematic marker analysis over different culture periods
  • Apply methods for non‑invasive analytics of the model

Qualifications

  • Completed bachelor study and enrolment in a master programme in biotechnologie, cell biologie or a related field
  • Motivation for literature research
  • Basic knowledge of molecular‑biological and biotechnological methods
  • Experience with flow cytometry desirable
  • High self‑motivation, responsibility and teamwork
  • Proficient use of scientific software and MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Good communication skills in German or English (written and spoken)
