Doctoral candidate in cartography / geovisualization / storytelling Posted: 18.05.2026 Job reference: 248e35e12584f010374e209b025b2645 Job description Your main task and responsibility is to develop a generic and descriptive approach, language, and programming library for describing and publishing digital story maps. The research and implementation should cover different types of story maps, such as “scrolling narrative”, “journey/guided tour”, “time‑based”, “camera/scale‑based”, or any other storytelling modes that emerge during the conceptual phase. In addition, a graphical user interface shall be developed to allow map editors to input multilingual story‑map content into this generic structure, describing the story and its map‑related interactions. Qualifications A MSc or MA degree in Geomatics, Geography, Computer Science, Interaction Design, Visual Communication, or a similar program is required. Expertise and interest in data structures and data formats Storytelling multimedia content User experience design Graphical user interfaces Proficiency in programming with TypeScript and Python (essential) Fluency in English (mandatory); German language skills are an advantage Workplace 2) curriculum vitae; 3) copies of diploma / certificates / degrees; 4) work samples; 5) testimonials; and 6) contact details of at least two referees.
