The ICCThas an immediate opening fora highly motivated and committed Associate Researcheror Researcherin the Fuels programwho willwork onlow-GHGenergy alternativesforthemarine,aviationand road transport sectors.The Associate Researcheror Researcherwill conductrobust research andanalysesanddevelop policy recommendations,communicatingactionable findings topolicymakers, industry, and other stakeholders.Thispersonwillfocus on EU policies, including theRenewable Energy Directive,FuelEUMaritime,andReFuelEU(aviation).Representative work can be seen at theICCT’s

You will:

  • Analyze the cost,life-cycleGHG emissions, and availability of low-GHG renewable fuels,such as renewable hydrogen derivatives and biofuels.
  • Write clear and concise technical reports, policy briefs, and articles including informative but easy-to-understand figures to summarize ICCT’s research for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Present findings in public and private forums.
  • Collaborate effectively with theICCT’sglobal Fuels teamandEU colleagues, as well as with external partners, policymakers, and industry stakeholders.

You have:

  • Associate Researcher: A bachelor’s or master's degree in environmental science,biology, chemistry, ecology,engineering, environmentalpolicyor related discipline, in addition to at least two years of related experience, or alternatively a PhD degree
  • Researcher: A master’sor PhDdegree in engineering, environmental science, environmental policy, energy and resources, or another relevant subject, in addition to at least three years of related experience.
  • Excellent researchandquantitative skills, with strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiencyin Excel;Pythonor R skills desired
  • The ability to work independently with limited supervision, being highly organized, self-directed, creative, and strategic in problem-solving
  • Availability for occasional work travel, mostly within the EU
  • Fluency in English (required), plus other European languages (desired)
  • Experience with life-cycle assessment and/or techno-economic analyses (desired)

What we offer:

Our preference is for the candidate to work out of our office in the heart of Berlin, Germany.However, following an initial minimum6-month orientation training in our Berlin office,candidates may applyto work from elsewhere within Germany, France,Ireland, or Sweden, with the requirement to regularly visit the Berlin office.This position offers an annual starting salary of EUR70,000 for Associate Researcher or EUR 84,000 for Researcher (40 hours/week if working from Germany), depending on your level of experience.We offer an initial 2-year contract, with the possibility of extension depending on organizational resources and performance.
