The ICCT is seekinga self-motivated and dedicated Associate Researcheror Researcherto support a broad range of projects focused ondecarbonization of themaritime sector,includingalternative fuels and climate& health relatedimpact assessments. The position will have a strong emphasis on policy development within theEuropean Unionand the International Maritime Organization. - Conduct research ontheEuropean Union’s and IMO’sgoals and policies for decarbonizingthemaritimeshipping sector.
- Analyze energy use and emissions from domestic and international shipping, compare policy alternatives,and develop recommendations to decarbonize maritime shipping and reduce air pollution.
- Write clear and concisepublicationsto summarize ICCT’s research for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Present research findings internally and externally.
- Help organize outreach activities such as briefings, meetings, and workshops.
- Engageand collaboratewith external stakeholders, including government entities andNGOs.
- Review other colleagues’ work as well as consultants’ work on program projects.

You Have
- Associate Researcher Level:
- Bachelor’s degreeorhigherin engineering, transportation, economics, environmental science, public policy, ora relatedfield.
- Researcher Level:
- Master’s degree or higherin engineering, transportation,economics,environmental science,public policy,orarelatedfield.
- Familiarity with environmental and energy challenges in themaritimeshipping sector
- Associate Researcher or Researcher Level:
- Exceptionalquantitative, analytical, and research skills, with a demonstrated ability tounderstandhighly technicalinformation, draw policy-relevant conclusions, and communicaterecommendations todecision-makers.
- Big data analysis or econometricmodelingexperience(preferred)
- Advancedproficiencyin MS Office, especially Excel, andstrong programming experience in Python or similar(preferred).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Fluency inEnglish isrequired;fluency inGermanwould be an asset.

What we offer:
Our preference is for the candidate to work out of our office in the heart of Berlin, Germany. However, following an initial minimum6-month orientation training in our Berlin office, candidates may apply to work from elsewhere within Germany, France,Ireland, or Sweden, with the requirement to regularly visit the Berlin office. This position offers an annual starting salary of EUR70,000for Associate Researcher or EUR 84,000 for Researcher(40 hours/week if working from Germany), depending on your level of experience. We offer an initial 2-year contract, with the possibility of extension depending on organizational resources and performance.
