Overview

The Faculty of Biology and Chemistry invites applications for a W2 Professorship in Physical Chemistry with a focus on materials research as of the earliest possible date.

Reference is made to § 67 Para.7 Hessian Higher Education Act (Hess HG) and to the conditions of employment based on §68 Hess HG.

Proficient knowledge of German is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Scientific collaboration within JLU, particularly with the Center for Materials Research (Zf M) and with materials science research groups in the Department of Physics within the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, Physics, Geography.
  • Collaboration in interdisciplinary research projects within JLU’s focus area “Material and Energy‑” is expected.
  • Research collaborations within the FCMH are therefore expected.
  • Supervise international students and play an active role in the Cluster of Excellence – Post Lithium Storage (POLi S).
  • Participate in existing and planned collaborative research projects.
  • Teaching duties amount to 8 semester hours per week in bachelor and master degree programmes in chemistry, food chemistry, advanced materials, and sustainable chemistry.
  • Continuous development of course concepts including the use of digital media.
  • Teaching conducted in German and English.
  • Strong commitment to the supervision of doctoral students.
  • Successful independent acquisition of external funding is expected while employed at JLU, preferably from the DFG, the BMFTR or the EU, and to be actively involved in externally funded collaborative projects.

Qualifications

  • An internationally recognized researcher with an outstanding track record in a current field of materials research, with a focus on electrochemical interface research, energy storage or conversion, and the investigation of relevant systems using modern instrumental and analytical methods.
  • Qualification for scientific work, generally demonstrated by the quality of the doctorate.
  • Pedagogical aptitude appropriate to the teaching duties is required.
  • Language competence in German (C2) and English (C1) is required for teaching responsibilities.
  • Hold a university degree in chemistry or a comparable subject within the natural sciences, an outstanding doctoral degree, and additional academic achievements (e. g., habilitation or peer‑reviewed publications) with a focus on modelling of electrochemical functional materials and the experimental investigation of transport and charge transfer processes.
  • Demonstrate international networks and success in independent acquisition of external funding.
  • Experience in academic teaching at a scientific university; evidence of excellent didactic skills, demonstrated by positively evaluated courses, is desirable.
  • Experience in academic self‑administration is advantageous.
  • In case the candidate exceeds the basic age limit of 50 years, a civil servant appointment under §66 Para.3 sentences2 and3 Hessian Higher Education Act (Hess HG) in conjunction with §11 Hessian Career Regulation (HLVO) requires a specific functional interest.
