Second‑tier candidates include all external candidates, except those from non‑represented member states. /p h3Responsibilities /h3 ul liUndertake legal research and analysis, and prepare background notes, preliminary drafts of legal opinions and studies on substantive and procedural issues relating to public international law. /li liPrepare first drafts of legal advice on requests pertaining to IOM legal status and privileges and immunities, and draft related correspondence. /li liPrepare first drafts and assist in the review of host‑country agreements and framework agreements with other UN entities. /li liAssist in the review, drafting and interpretation of organizational regulations, rules, policies, procedures and guidelines. /li liContribute to the delivery of LEG outputs under the annual workplan. /li liAttend internal and external meetings and conferences relevant to the work of LEGPS as required. /li liPerform such other duties as may be assigned. /li /ul h3Qualifications /h3 bEducation: /b ul liMaster’s degree in Public International Law or related field with at least two years of relevant professional experience; OR /li liBachelor’s degree in Law with at least four years of relevant professional experience. /li /ul bExperience: /b ul liMinimum two years of relevant professional experience (four years for Bachelor’s degree holders) in Public International Law, especially in Law of International Organizations, Human Rights Law or International Humanitarian Law. /li liExperience working in an international organization, preferably in the United Nations system, is an advantage. /li /ul bSkills: /b ul liDeep knowledge of public international law. /li liKnowledge of privileges and immunities law is an advantage. /li liKnowledge of international humanitarian law and human rights law is an advantage. /li liExcellent writing and research skills with meticulous attention to detail. /li liAbility to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines. /li /ul bLanguages: /b ul liFluency in English (oral and written) required. /li liWorking knowledge of another UN official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is an advantage. /li /ul bRequired Competencies: /b ul liInclusion and respect for diversity; Integrity and transparency; Professionalism; Courage; Empathy. /li /ul bCore Competencies (Level 2): /b ul liTeamwork; Delivering results; Managing and sharing knowledge; Accountability; Communication. /li /ul h3Notes /h3 pInternationally recruited professional staff are required to be mobile.
