The International School of Stuttgart e.V. is a non-profit Kindergarten through 12th grade, NEASC accredited, IB World School offering an international curriculum to a student body of about 900 from over 40 nations. Among its strengths are its student-centred and holistic approach to learning and its commitment to professional development and emphasis on student pastoral care. ISS is looking to hire a qualified Library Assistant (Sindelfingen Campus) starting as soon as possible. This position is initially until July 2025.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Previous experience working in a library or educational setting is highly desired
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Passion for reading and literature
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to lift and carry moderately heavy boxes of books and materials
  • Stamina to stand, bend, and move around the library for extended periods
  • Must be able to reach high and low shelves to access materials

Responsibilities

The Library Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the school's educational mission by assisting in the operation of the school library. Under the supervision of the Sindelfingen Campus librarian, this position is responsible for helping provide essential library services to students, teachers, and staff, promoting a love of reading, and maintaining a well-organized and efficient library environment.

Assisting Librarian with Circulation Services

  • Assist students and staff in checking out and returning library materials
  • Maintain accurate circulation records and ensure the timely return of materials
  • Help students locate and select appropriate books and resources

Assisting Librarian with Shelving and Organization

  • Ensure books and other materials are properly shelved and organized
  • Conduct routine shelf-reading and re-shelving to maintain order
  • Assist with inventory management and annual book audits

Assisting Librarian with Literacy and Reading Promotion

  • Create displays and book lists to promote a love of reading
  • Assist in developing and implementing library initiatives

Assisting Librarian with Library Maintenance

  • Keep the library clean and organized, including tables, chairs, and reading areas
  • Assist with the repair and maintenance of library materials and equipment
  • Report any library maintenance issues to the School Campus Librarian

Assisting Librarian with Technology Support

  • Assist students and staff with the use of online catalogs
  • Troubleshoot basic technical issues and refer complex problems to the appropriate personnel

Assisting Librarian in Programming

  • Support the School Librarian in planning and executing library programs, such as author visits, reading challenges, and book fairs
  • Help set up and manage events and activities within the library
