Head of Engineering – Utility-Scale Solar PV & BESS Berlin, Germany | Hybrid | Permanent An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a well‑funded, rapidly growing renewable energy developer with a substantial pipeline of utility-scale Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across Germany and Europe.
As Head of Engineering, you'll lead the engineering function across Germany, providing technical leadership throughout the entire project lifecycle—from early‑stage development and technical due diligence through to EPC delivery, commissioning and operational handover.
Working closely with internal project teams and external stakeholders, you'll play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest technical standards.
The Role You’ll act as the technical authority for a portfolio of renewable energy projects, supporting investment decisions, engineering strategy, procurement and project delivery while managing relationships with EPC contractors, consultants, OEMs, grid operators and technical advisors.
This is a varied leadership position combining engineering expertise, commercial awareness and stakeholder management.
Key Responsibilities Lead all engineering activities across utility‑scale Solar PV and BESS projects.
Provide technical support from early‑stage development through Ready‑to‑Build, Financial Close, construction, commissioning and operations.
Lead technical due diligence for project acquisitions and investment opportunities.
Produce and review technical specifications, employer's requirements and EPC technical documentation.
Review EPC contractor proposals, detailed designs and technical submissions.
Evaluate equipment selection and optimise plant performance and project economics.
Identify technical risks and implement mitigation strategies.
Manage external engineering consultants and technical advisors.
Support contract negotiations from a technical perspective.
Carry out technical site visits throughout development and construction.
About You Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
Strong background in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and Solar PV engineering.
Experience working for a developer, IPP, EPC contractor or engineering consultancy.
Strong understanding of EPC delivery, technical due diligence and engineering documentation.
Experience with engineering and modelling software such as Auto CAD, PVsyst, Homer or similar.
Commercially aware with excellent stakeholder management skills.
Fluent in both English and German.
