Senior Legal Counsel (AI & Emerging Technologies)

JetBrains is a software company whose products are used by millions of software developers worldwide. We are looking for an experienced lawyer to help JetBrains navigate the high seas of legal compliance. You will be joining a team of experienced lawyers, supporting the legal needs of a growing and truly international IT company. Along with the requisite background and skills, we’re looking to welcome aboard a self-starter with a can-do attitude.

Areas of focus:

Once aboard, you’ll be focusing on the following:

• Overseeing and advising on legal aspects of AI projects, including compliance with regulatory requirements, IP, data protection, and emerging AI laws
• Proactively identifying and addressing potential legal and compliance risks related to AI, including intellectual property, privacy, and ethical concerns
• Leading complex legal projects and strategic initiatives, coordinating cross-functional efforts, setting milestones, and reporting progress to stakeholders
• Negotiating and finalizing AI-related partnerships, vendor agreements, and customer contracts
• Staying up to date with evolving AI regulations and guidelines and providing actionable guidance to JetBrains teams
• Introducing updates to management on AI legal matters, regulatory shifts, and compliance impacts
• Supervising and mentoring colleagues, especially in projects with an AI or technology focus
• Designing and implementing training programs to ensure compliance with AI-related policies and regulations
• Sharing knowledge and insights with JetBrains\‘ legal team and other departments, enhancing awareness and best practices for AI initiatives

Requirements :

Our ideal candidate will have:

• Legal Background: 8+ years of legal experience, preferably within a multinational corporation or a leading law firm, with a solid understanding of AI and emerging technologies
• Qualifications: A degree in law (LLB, LLM, Mgr., or equivalent) and expertise in regulatory, data protection, IP law, or tech-specific areas
• Skillset:
  • Advanced legal acumen across various legal fields, with a deep understanding of best business practices and competitive landscape
  • Strong project management skills and experience leading complex projects autonomously
  • Demonstrated influence within legal and cross-functional teams and regular exposure to executive management
  • Excellent task management and people management skills, with the capacity to assign, prioritize, and execute legal tasks effectively
  • Hands-on experience with handling AI related matters is a significant advantage
• Technical Skills: Familiarity with IT and technology practices and AI-specific legal frameworks
• Communication Skills: Ability to articulate legal issues persuasively and explain complex concepts to non-legal stakeholders
• Languages: Proficiency in English; other languages such as German or Chinese are a plus

If you command German, Chinese, or another language, we will see that as a plus – Czech or Slovak is not required but will also be welcomed.
