• Instruct and facilitate meaningful learning of course outcomes in the curriculum
• Proactively support all facets of the learning environment
• Provide learning‑centered instruction enabling graduates to fulfill evolving marketplace needs
• Encourage a culture valuing mutual responsibility, respect, lifelong learning, diversity, ethics, and personal and professional development
• Participate in activities promoting the stature of academic programs, departments, and colleges
• Perform faculty responsibilities according to the faculty job description and Faculty Supplement to the South University Employee Handbook
• Provide course instruction aligned with the South University curriculum model and system delivery style
• Design and deliver class instruction through instructional plans, learning activities, lesson objectives, and approved online course shells
• Foster student proficiency, establish performance criteria, and evaluate learning
• Establish a classroom environment conducive to learning and student involvement
• Plan and prepare effectively for classes and student success
• Promote student success through flexibility, passion for teaching, and student engagement
• Maintain accurate records, submit grades and reports on time, and enforce academic and attendance policies
• Relate professional, life, and industry experience to learning and remain aware of industry trends and opportunities
• Participate in faculty development to enhance learner‑centered instruction skills
• Communicate consistently and effectively with supervisors, faculty, and administrators
• Participate in curriculum and system task forces, campus events such as orientation and graduation, workshops, and meetings

Requirements

  • For graduate programs, a terminal degree from a regionally accredited institution in the discipline to be taught, with a concentration in the teaching discipline (minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline) required
  • For undergraduate programs, a master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in the discipline to be taught, with a concentration in the teaching discipline (minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline) required
  • Experience in instruction or formalized education process, preferably in a post‑secondary or college institution
  • Active, valid, and unencumbered state licensure or certification as applicable to the discipline
  • At least six months teaching experience at South University or another post‑secondary education institution preferred, with online experience a plus (for online only)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to build successful relationships with student populations
  • Outstanding conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent time management and detail‑oriented skills
  • Computer based skills (i.e., software, analytical, and report writing skills)
  • Experience with computerized learning
  • Excellent critical thinking and decision‑making skills
  • Excellent teaching skills as evidenced in prior teaching evaluations

Core Competencies

Demonstrates expertise in curriculum design and delivery, fostering student engagement and success through effective instructional strategies. Holds a terminal or master’s degree in the relevant discipline and possesses strong communication, critical thinking, and conflict resolution skills.
