- Advise and counsel the business on federal and state laws and regulations impacting mortgage lending, financial services and employment
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements
- Support underwriting guideline updates
- Provide legal support for the Company's technology initiatives
- Direct the Company's default servicing, litigation, foreclosure, and bankruptcy strategy
- Manage third party servicer and outside counsel
- Oversee matters related to the preservation, listing, and disposition of REO properties
- Collaborate with the Capital Markets team on securitization transactions
- Support board governance matters
- Partner with executive leadership and the board to strengthen governance, controls, and operational compliance
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
- Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction, in good standing
- 8+ years of relevant legal experience in the financial services industry, including as an in-house counsel
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to build relationships and trust across an organization
- Proven negotiation skills, business acumen and the ability to balance legal risk with commercial priorities
- Ability to maintain discretion with confidential and sensitive information
- Ability to review and maintain documentation with strong attention to detail
