Auditing & Education Specialist – IP/OP Facility

  • Evaluate client coders’ assignment of ICD-10, CPT, and/or HCPCS codes for inpatient, outpatient, and physician practice encounters
  • Perform complex concurrent and retrospective analysis of inpatient medical record documentation to validate coded data
  • Analyze findings and identify potential root causes of errors
  • Prepare summary reports and audit deliverables for clients with supporting references
  • Provide second-level review to ensure compliance and appropriate code assignments
  • Research, analyze, and respond to compliance, coding, and denials inquiries
  • Protect patient and client information confidentiality and follow AHIMA ethical coding standards and official coding guidelines
  • Develop and provide coding education to clients as part of the Consulting Services Team
  • Conduct assigned audits while meeting productivity standards, including at least 80% billable productive hours when client work is available
  • Conduct independent quality assurance of audit results before final submission; maintain at least 95% accuracy
  • Report work time and work products accurately and promptly
  • Communicate professionally with coworkers and clients
  • Provide management with schedules of planned work activities, events, sites, and changes
  • Perform other assigned duties

Requirements

  • Extensive IP facility and/or OPP facility coding and auditing experience
  • AHIMA or AAPC certification required; CCS, RHIT, or RHIA strongly preferred; CIC or COC considered
  • Experience with telecommuting and electronic medical record systems required
  • Recognized credential from AHIMA or AAPC
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Proficient computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to work with multiple and diverse clients and projects
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to maintain and access multiple files
  • High levels of accuracy and attention to detail
  • 5+ years’ experience coding and/or auditing in an acute care facility or clinic, involving the patient types listed in the job summary or other relevant experience
  • Ability to work at a computer terminal for 6–8 hours per day
  • Ability to lift and move material weighing up to 20 lbs. infrequently
  • Maintenance of professional credentials and knowledge through continuing education
