- Administer and implement database solutions focused on Google Cloud Platform and other cloud-based solutions
- Provide system operational support, administration, problem resolution, and software installations and upgrades
- Maintain enterprise cloud database technologies, including Microsoft SQL Server and other database platforms
- Configure and maintain database platforms, including patching
- Monitor database performance, utilization, and capacity
- Manage maintenance plans, backups, and automated jobs
- Maintain database platform security models and Active Directory-integrated accounts
- Write and optimize queries and design database schemas
- Develop, administer, and optimize Google BigQuery datasets, tables, views, partitioning, clustering, permissions, scheduled queries, and data pipelines
- Support BigQuery SQL development, performance tuning, cost optimization, data governance, access controls, and integrations
- Use database, cloud, monitoring, DevOps, reporting, and incident management tools
- Apply AI agents and automation tools to improve monitoring, incident triage, documentation, workflows, and self-service capabilities
- Perform traces and profiling to troubleshoot problems and improve performance
- Advise application and software development teams on database design and query optimization
- Manage releases and SQL objects using DevOps and version-control tools
- Provide after-hours on-call support and tune automated alerts
- Respond to technical issues from internal users and troubleshoot database and application issues
- Document incidents, identify severity and impact, and escalated issues appropriately
- Monitor databases to ensure service-level agreements are met
- Communicate status and updates to end users
- Recreate problems in development environments and create documented workarounds
- Assist in training
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in database administration in a cloud-based enterprise environment
- Experience across multiple cloud providers and database platforms preferred
- Administrative knowledge of Active Directory and database security
- Scripting and automation experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong customer service and analytical skills
- Ability to solve complex problems and implement appropriate solutions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective professional working relationships
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to adapt and learn in a fast-paced, changing environment
- Administrative experience with at least one of Azure, Google Cloud, or AWS
- Experience using or supporting AI agents, copilots, or intelligent automation solutions for database administration, cloud operations, monitoring, troubleshooting, documentation, or analytics
- Linux experience is a plus
- Administration experience with database backup technologies
- Disaster Recovery technologies experience is a plus
- 10+ years of experience preferred spanning more than one environment
- MongoDB and other non-Microsoft SQL Server database technologies are a plus
- Data Warehousing experience is a plus
- Hands-on Google Cloud database administration experience, including BigQuery, Cloud SQL, Cloud Storage, Cloud Monitoring, Cloud Logging, IAM, performance tuning, cost optimization, and data governance
- PowerShell scripting and automation experience is a plus
- On-call support for after-hours issues required
