Director of Business Technology

• Personally design, build, configure, test, deploy, and support business technology solutions
• Develop integrations, workflow automations, scripts, data transformations, reports, and lightweight applications
• Troubleshoot technical blockers across applications, databases, integrations, and data flows
• Translate business requirements into technical designs and working solutions
• Review vendor or contractor technical work and provide hands-on guidance
• Serve as technical owner and escalation point for CRM, ERP, analytics/data platforms, billing, integrations, and related systems
• Develop understanding of application architecture, data models, interfaces, credentials, dependencies, and support requirements
• Define systems of record, integration patterns, data ownership, and application boundaries
• Support platform stabilization, vendor management, release planning, access, documentation, and issue resolution
• Identify opportunities to simplify the application landscape, reduce manual work, retire legacy processes, and improve reliability
• Lead business technology initiatives from discovery through implementation, including requirements, technical design, planning, execution, testing, training, deployment, and post-launch stabilization
• Break initiatives into workstreams and allocate tasks across internal resources, contractors, implementation partners, and vendors
• Establish project reporting, decision logs, risk tracking, and escalation processes
• Partner with functional leaders to define success criteria, resolve tradeoffs, and maintain momentum across departments and systems
• Build and maintain a prioritized backlog of internal technology needs
• Establish intake and prioritization processes and maintain an evolving technology roadmap
• Communicate priorities, status, resource needs, and tradeoffs to senior leadership
• Manage delivery across external technology partners and consultants
• Support vendor selection, scoping, statements of work, and commercial evaluation
• Coordinate with customer-facing technology teams on shared infrastructure, application knowledge, engineering support, and architecture
• Provide technical direction and day-to-day leadership across project teams
• Mentor analysts, administrators, developers, contractors, and business power users
• Help define future roles, participate in hiring, and build a lean business technology capability
• Promote documentation, ownership, technical judgment, and continuous improvement

Requirements

• Approximately 8-10 years of progressive experience in technology consulting, business systems, enterprise applications, software engineering, solutions architecture, or a similarly broad technology role
• Demonstrated ability to personally deliver technical solutions, not solely manage teams or vendors
• Strong working knowledge of APIs and systems integration, relational databases and SQL, data movement/transformation, workflow automation, and modern cloud/SaaS application architectures
• Experience with enterprise business applications such as CRM and ERP platforms; experience with Zoho, NetSuite, Snowflake, or comparable platforms is helpful but not required
• Experience leading cross-functional technology projects from ambiguous business need through production implementation
• Ability to move comfortably between business process discussions, technical troubleshooting, project management, and executive communication
• Experience managing external consultants, implementation partners, or software vendors
• Exposure to hiring, mentoring, or managing technical resources; extensive department-management experience is not required
• Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to work directly in systems when needed rather than defaulting to delegation
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or a related discipline preferred; equivalent practical experience will be considered
• Strong ownership mentality and ability to make progress in an environment with incomplete documentation, evolving priorities, and limited dedicated resources
• Ability to deconstruct business processes, identify bottlenecks, and translate needs into pragmatic technology solutions
• Sound judgment about when to build, configure, buy, integrate, or engage a specialist
• Clear communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior executives
• Ability to earn trust across functions and introduce structure to a historically federated technology environment without slowing the business down
• Legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship
• Willingness and ability to travel as needed
