- Lead safe and efficient internal wind turbine blade inspections using SkySpecs internal inspection systems
- Serve as the on-site lead technician and primary authority for daily field operations
- Control turbine access, climbing operations, confined-space-style blade work, technician oversight, and worksite activities
- Verify safe turbine operational status before inspections
- Conduct pre-job briefings, hazard assessments, and daily safety discussions
- Monitor technician performance and intervene in unsafe situations
- Maintain accountability for PPE, climbing gear, rescue equipment, and inspection systems
- Provide on-site mentorship, onboarding, and technician training
- Execute annual refresher training and site audits
- Complete training and compliance paperwork
- Lead operations using the SkySpecs crawler inspection system
- Coordinate daily field activities, scheduling, task delegation, and workflow
- Set up, operate, troubleshoot, and handle inspection equipment
- Ensure inspection procedures and workflows are followed
- Coordinate with the SkySpecs HSE Department and Internal Inspections Manager on competency and training programs
- Complete and maintain site documentation, permits, procedures, and operational paperwork
- Track GWO certifications and training compliance
- Support audit readiness and documentation retention
- Report operational concerns, incidents, and compliance issues
- Submit training reports and audit forms in Airspace Pro and the SkySpecs Field Application
- Mentor technicians and facilitate communication among technicians, supervisors, management, and customers
- Promote safety, quality, accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience working in wind turbine operations, blade inspections, rope access, climbing operations, or related field services
- 1+ year of proven experience as a SkySpecs-employed Field Technician
- Strong understanding of turbine safety procedures and field operations
- Demonstrated leadership experience in field environments or technical operations
- Ability to lead teams in high-risk operational environments
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to maintain accurate documentation and procedural compliance
- Comfortable working at heights and in confined or restricted workspaces
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required
- Current GWO certifications preferred
- Experience with internal blade inspections or robotic crawler inspection systems preferred
- Previous supervisory or lead technician experience preferred
- Rope access, rescue, or advanced climbing experience preferred
- Experience with customer site compliance programs and operational procedures preferred
- Ability to climb wind turbines regularly
- Ability to work at heights for extended periods
- Ability to lift and carry inspection and climbing equipment up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work in varying weather and environmental conditions
- Ability to work inside confined blade spaces during inspection activities
- Ability to work outdoors for 12+ hours per day
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
