  • Serve as a primary technical authority for fuel thermal-mechanical analysis methods, including gap conductance, cladding strain, fatigue, creep collapse, pellet-cladding interaction, and performance margins
  • Drive development, qualification, and application of next-generation fuel performance modeling approaches
  • Evaluate and incorporate industry advancements, benchmark data, and vendor methodologies into NuScale's thermal-mechanical framework
  • Support interfacing methods such as neutronics, subchannel analysis, and system thermal-hydraulics
  • Perform safety analysis calculations using industry-standard and advanced fuel thermal-mechanical simulation tools
  • Evaluate limits and margins for normal operation and design-basis events
  • Lead software benchmarking, qualification, and quality assurance documentation
  • Integrate fuel thermal-mechanical methods with multi-physics modeling and methods development
  • Support product and service strategy development for next-generation light-water reactor fuel
  • Coordinate thermal-mechanical input/output interfaces, change control, shared models, and cross-discipline analysis frameworks
  • Provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers, and lead complex analysis tasks
  • Contribute to licensing technical/topical reports, license applications, and other licensing documentation
  • Participate in licensing interactions with the government regulator
  • Prepare and verify engineering reports, calculations, studies, system descriptions, requirement specifications, and design documents
  • Develop innovative solutions to multifaceted technical challenges and execute analyses with minimal oversight
  • Support changing organizational priorities, urgent analyses, cross-functional reviews, troubleshooting, and special studies

Requirements

  • Minimum B.S. degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline from a four-year accredited college or university
  • Advanced degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering desirable
  • Minimum 8 years of full-time, directly relevant engineering experience
  • Demonstrated experience implementing engineering design processes for fuel thermal-mechanical analysis and fuel design
  • Additional experience with neutronics, transient analysis, and related safety analysis preferred
  • Experience in core design and neutronics preferred
  • Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810
  • Knowledge and implementation of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and NQA-1 quality assurance regulations, standards, and guidelines
  • Ability to understand and communicate clearly using a phone, personal interaction, and computers
  • Ability to learn new job functions and comprehend and apply new concepts quickly
  • Ability to travel nationally and locally using common forms of transportation
  • Ability to perform essential duties efficiently and accurately without causing a significant safety threat to self or others
