  • Provide customer service to patients, families, referring providers, insurance carriers, OHSU healthcare providers, and staff
  • Answer calls and handle scheduling, general information, referral status, and care-related inquiries
  • Schedule and manage patient access to Connected Care Center clinical services
  • Document telephone encounters, medication refill requests, complaints, and inquiries in the EMR
  • Transfer calls to Nurse Triage and route calls to appropriate staff or on-call personnel
  • Process referrals, direct referrals to clinical departments, and maintain referral documentation
  • Enter and update patient information in Epic and use Media Manager to upload documents
  • Maintain clinic templates and block schedules in Epic
  • Register and pre-register patients, verify demographics and insurance coverage, and conduct financial screening
  • Confirm healthcare eligibility, obtain managed care authorizations, and follow up on pending authorizations
  • Schedule admissions, elective inpatient and day patient reservations, surgical services, and ancillary services
  • Prepare patients for visits, obtain records and studies, arrange accommodations, and send information packets
  • Prepare patients for virtual visits and provide appointment reminders
  • Scan and accurately place documents in patient charts
  • Complete PAS training and competency requirements and maintain role-specific competencies
  • Provide PAS system instruction to coworkers and serve as a PAS resource
  • Fill in for PAS/R positions within the service area and perform other assigned duties

Requirements

  • One year of experience in a medical office setting, including high-volume direct patient contact and scheduling of appointments, with managed care authorization experience potentially required depending on position description
  • OR one and a half years of work experience in a high-volume direct public contact position and 6 months of experience in a medical office setting
  • Thorough knowledge of PAS policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated advanced PAS user skills and extensive knowledge of integrated care at OHSU
  • Basic computer skills, including word processing, Windows applications, and online scheduling
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in confrontational customer interactions
  • Must be able to work independently from a remote location
  • Ability to lift and carry 25 pounds
  • Preferred: advanced degree
  • Preferred: experience with an electronic health record and Epic
  • Preferred: typing speed of 40-50 wpm
  • Preferred: 2+ years of patient scheduling experience
  • Preferred: 2+ years of healthcare experience, preferably in Urology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, GI, or Imaging
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and diagnostic and procedural coding
  • Proficient computer skills and high attention to detail
