- Report to the Boiler and Machinery Field Manager
- Conduct boiler and pressure vessel inspections according to jurisdictional rules
- Perform thorough examinations, identify hazardous conditions, apply codes and standards, and recommend corrective actions
- Work with Boiler and Machinery underwriting and claims groups to support informed decisions, profit, and growth
- Maintain a field presence and spend approximately 20%–50% of the time onsite with customers
- Manage jurisdictional inspection workload within an assigned territory
- Prioritize, plan, and schedule work using provided technology resources
- Respond to customer requests and help customers understand and mitigate equipment-breakdown risks
- Perform less complex risk evaluations, evaluate exposures and controls, develop loss estimates, and communicate findings
- Determine the adequacy of controls and overall insurability
- Investigate less complex Equipment Breakdown claims
- Evaluate breakdown elements, damage extent, invoices, and causes of loss
- Document, communicate, and report findings
- Participate in training opportunities and perform other assigned duties
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a related field
- Two years of experience in the boiler and machinery industry or a related field, such as plant engineering, power generation, manufacturing operations, maintenance, or relevant military experience
- Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical principles
- Basic knowledge of predictive and preventive maintenance practices
- Engineering and technical skills to achieve business goals
- Ability to use Risk Control workstation computer system applications
- National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspector’s Inservice commission
- Military Boiler or Nuclear Power operator certification
- Civilian Power Boiler Operation Certificate
- ANSI NDE Level II Examiner Certification
- Valid driver's license
- Must obtain an Inservice Commission (IS) from the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors within six months of employment
- Must have or be able to attain appropriate certification to meet state-specific requirements, where applicable
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Customer service, problem-solving, communication, and relationship-management abilities
