  • Contribute editorial ideas during project planning
  • Research, write, and edit manuscripts with limited supervision
  • Review and edit all page stages of products
  • Match state objectives to relevant core-program content
  • Apply state objectives and testing blueprints to content and vendor-work evaluation
  • Follow established procedures and company policies
  • Ensure assignments meet project specifications and deadlines
  • Communicate with the supervisor regarding feedback and performance
  • Refer budget- or schedule-impacting decisions to the supervisor and make recommendations
  • Provide accurate assignment status
  • Monitor reading level, content accuracy and currency, freedom from bias, and teachability
  • Write art specifications for artists/topographers and photo researchers
  • Evaluate sketches and art proofs and help choose photos
  • Help oversee outside developers
  • Participate in project planning and offer creative suggestions informed by marketplace and customer needs
  • Help develop innovative K-12 digital and print instructional materials

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in curriculum development or development of instructional materials for social studies, including some K-5 curriculum development experience
  • Experience managing projects preferred
  • Teaching experience strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of educational methodologies and instructional design within social studies
  • Similar knowledge in English language arts/early literacy strongly preferred
  • Graduate or undergraduate degree with major or minor in history, economics, English, education, anthropology, ethnic studies, geography, second language acquisition, or related fields
  • Familiarity with today’s youth, popular culture, and youth learning motivation
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google equivalents
  • Knowledge of differentiation strategies, scaffolding for MLL students, and UDL
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with editing, grammar, and style guides such as Chicago Manual of Style
  • Knowledge of print and digital instructional-material production processes
  • Ability to write, edit, and rewrite content to accuracy, style, grade-level, and market-need standards
  • Ability to translate English language arts and literacy knowledge into social studies content
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask, meet deadlines, and maintain quality
  • Ability to work collaboratively, independently, with minimal supervision, and effectively with ambiguity
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Ability to address detail while understanding broader project objectives
  • Self-confidence to participate in meetings and open forums
  • Willingness to promote teamwork, reduce barriers and conflicts, volunteer for new initiatives, and follow through
  • Customer-focused approach to conceptualizing marketable products
