- Lead and develop a team of senior engineers, providing coaching, feedback, and career growth opportunities
- Own prioritization and intake for the SDK portfolio across 35+ SDKs and the Relay Proxy
- Balance feature work, maintenance, security, and customer escalations
- Partner with Product Management to define and deliver the SDK and Relay Proxy roadmap
- Guide technical tradeoffs across languages and platforms
- Ensure SDKs remain idiomatic, performant, and resilient
- Represent SDK engineering with customers, Support, Solutions, and Sales
- Communicate roadmaps, risks, and progress to engineering leadership
- Drive operational excellence in release quality, observability, and incident response
- Build team working norms that promote collaboration and reduce silos
- Participate in hiring to grow the team and raise the engineering bar
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in a formal engineering management role, including managing senior engineers
- Experience leading teams that build developer-facing software: SDKs, client libraries, public APIs, or open-source projects used by external developers
- Working familiarity with several programming languages and ecosystems
- Judgment to guide technical tradeoffs in a polyglot codebase
- Proven ability to prioritize across many stakeholders and partner with Product Management
- Ability to translate business goals into engineering plans with reliable estimates
- Track record of coaching and developing senior engineers, including performance management, career growth planning, and technical mentorship
- Excellent communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders, including customers
- Familiarity with observability practices and comfort with production incident response
- Experience contributing to or maintaining open-source software is a plus
