- Provide mechanical engineering and structural analysis support for commercial and industrial HVAC products, primarily water- and air-cooled chillers
- Support product development, warranty, sales, and pressure vessel manufacturing
- Conduct ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and related design calculations
- Provide analysis to optimize chiller components, including pressure vessels
- Support ASME pressure vessel certification of Johnson Controls products
- Support Canadian Pressure Vessel Registration (CRN)
- Develop field modification procedures for pressure vessels
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate bi-yearly updates to ASME pressure vessel calculations
- Review patents and papers to understand technology limits and industry intellectual property
- Conduct root-cause analysis for warranty and service cases
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and training to developing engineers
- Support cross-functional product development teams
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 5+ years of experience in ASME pressure vessel or heat exchanger design
- Understanding of applicable pressure vessel design and test standards, including ASME, CSA, PED, API, and TEMA
- Familiarity with ASHRAE-15, ASCE-7, ASME B31, ASME PCC, NBIC, UL 207, and UL 60335-2-40
- Experience using finite element analysis (FEA), particularly ANSYS Mechanical or equivalent
- Knowledge of pressure vessel manufacturing and testing practices
- Ability to travel up to 10%
- Professional Engineer’s license preferred
- HVAC industry experience preferred
- Master's degree in an engineering-related discipline preferred
- Experience with FEA tools for stress analysis preferred
