Own the hardware and firmware roadmap for Equipment Monitoring in-field devices
Drive new product introduction execution from problem definition and sourcing through EVT, DVT, PVT, certification, mass-production ramp, and post-launch stabilization
Own installed-base metrics including field failure and RMA rates, field battery life, connectivity and positioning performance, and installation success
Define and prioritize firmware features for power optimization, connectivity resilience, positioning accuracy, sensor fusion, OTA reliability, diagnostics, security, and fleet observability
Lead the product side of device partnerships involving partner and mesh networks
Make trade-offs across feature set, BOM cost, power budget, connectivity, antenna performance, manufacturability, ruggedness, installation experience, quality, and schedule
Translate customer and market signals into product requirements through discovery and cross-functional input
Write PRDs and technical specifications and align Hardware, Firmware, Mechanical, Quality, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and TPM through product gates
Partner with cloud and mobile product teams on telemetry schemas, provisioning, OTA, and device management
Drive go-to-market readiness with Product Marketing, Sales, Customer Success, Support, Install, and Operations
Represent Motive's hardware perspective with vendors, manufacturers, carriers, test labs, certification bodies, and network/OEM partners
Report to the VP of Connected Devices and partner with the Equipment Monitoring product team

Requirements

  • 6+ years of product management experience
  • Meaningful experience shipping IoT, telematics, tracking, or connected hardware products from concept through mass production and sustaining them post-launch
  • Proven ownership of at least one full hardware NPI reaching material volume, ideally 100K+ units
  • Experience navigating EVT/DVT/PVT/MP gates, regulatory certifications, and supplier/contract-manufacturer relationships
  • Technical fluency in battery-powered connected systems, including MCUs and SoCs, power management, battery chemistry, RF and antenna design, GNSS, cellular, BLE, environmental ratings, and firmware architecture
  • Direct experience owning firmware roadmaps, OTA update strategy, staged rollouts, release trains, device provisioning and security, telemetry design, and device observability
  • Demonstrated ownership of field reliability
  • Ability to lead ambiguous, cross-functional initiatives and influence roadmaps without direct authority
  • Customer empathy paired with data fluency
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Embedded Systems, Computer Science, Industrial Design, or a related technical field — or equivalent practical experience
  • Applicant must be authorized to receive and access commodities and technologies controlled under U.S. Export Administration Regulations
