- Execute VIPRE subchannel evaluations, including CHF predictions and thermal margin calculations, in accordance with approved methods
- Maintain subchannel models and ensure correctness of inputs, correlations, and boundary conditions
- Conduct RELAP analyses for LOCA, non-LOCA transients, and other design-basis scenarios
- Document model setup, assumptions, and results according to approved requirements
- Assess system behavior and protective features against safety-analysis acceptance criteria
- Identify design impacts on thermal-hydraulic margins and communicate findings
- Support cross-functional thermal-hydraulic reviews for reload safety analyses, plant design changes, operational concepts, and licensing deliverables
- Evaluate margin sensitivities and interface impacts of design changes
- Manage design and analysis interfaces within the Nuclear Fuels organization
- Contribute technical development of licensing technical or topical reports, license applications, and other licensing documentation
- Prepare and verify engineering reports, calculations, studies, system descriptions, requirement specifications, and other design documents
- Develop resolutions to challenging problems using creativity and innovation
- Support changing organizational priorities, including urgent analysis needs, cross-functional reviews, technical troubleshooting, and special studies
- Collaborate with Nuclear Methods, Nuclear Design, Code Development, Engineering, and Operations teams
Requirements
- Minimum B.S. degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering (or related discipline) from a four-year accredited college or university
- Advanced degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering is desirable
- Minimum 3 years of full-time, directly relevant engineering experience
- Experience implementing engineering design processes for subchannel thermal-hydraulics, transient analysis, or related safety analysis
- Experience in neutronics or fuel performance preferred
- Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810
- Familiarity with PWR thermal-hydraulic principles, design basis safety analysis, and interfaces with core design, fuel design, neutronics, and transient analysis
- Understanding and implementation of quality assurance regulations, standards, and guidelines of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and NQA-1
- Ability to travel nationally and locally using common forms of transportation
- Ability to understand and communicate clearly using a phone, personal interaction, and computers
