- Contribute to development and validation of next-generation multi-physics methods integrating subchannel thermal-hydraulics, system thermal-hydraulics, and neutronics
- Support method qualification through benchmark selection, acceptance criteria definition, and comparison with experimental data or legacy reference analyses
- Develop and review software quality-assurance documentation
- Prepare and verify subchannel analyses, including steady-state and transient margin evaluations and CHF predictions
- Prepare and verify coupled thermal-hydraulic evaluations, including LOCA, non-LOCA transients, and design-basis evaluations
- Collaborate across Nuclear Fuels and with core design, fuel design, subchannel thermal-hydraulics, and transient analysis teams
- Develop workflows improving consistency, automation, or integration across multi-physics safety analyses
- Contribute to licensing technical/topical reports, license applications, and other licensing documentation
- Participate in licensing interactions with the government regulator
- Prepare and verify engineering reports, calculations, studies, system descriptions, requirement specifications, and other design documents
- Provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers, and lead analysis tasks
- Resolve complex problems using creativity and innovation
- Support changing priorities, urgent analysis needs, cross-functional reviews, technical troubleshooting, and special studies
Requirements
- Minimum B.S. degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering (or related discipline) from a four-year accredited college or university
- Minimum 5 years of full-time, directly relevant engineering experience
- Experience implementing engineering design processes for subchannel thermal-hydraulics, transient analysis, and related safety analysis
- Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810
- Experience in neutronics or fuel performance preferred
- Advanced degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering desirable
- Familiarity with PWR thermal-hydraulic principles, design-basis safety analysis, and interfaces with core design, fuel design, neutronics, and transient analysis
- Understanding and implementation of quality assurance regulations, standards, and guidelines of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and NQA-1
- Ability to travel nationally and locally using common forms of transportation
- Ability to communicate clearly using phones, personal interaction, and computers
- Ability to learn new functions and apply concepts accurately in a rapidly evolving environment
