Do you want to build the products that help millions of people enjoy the benefits their employers provide?
At Epassi, we make it easy for employees across Europe to use their workplace benefits — whether that's lunch, sports, commuting, culture, or wellbeing. Every day, hundreds of thousands of people open our products to get something good out of their workday. That's what you'd be building. We're a fast-growing Finnish fintech company expanding across the Nordics and broader Europe. Our stack is modern, our teams are small and autonomous, and we move fast without losing quality. We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer who lives and breathes React and TypeScript — someone who takes ownership of features end-to-end, cares deeply about the user experience, and isn't afraid to venture into the backend when it helps the team ship better.
The Role
You own frontend development of our consumer-facing web products, from architecture and design decisions through to production delivery. You're accountable for building maintainable, scalable React/TypeScript applications that handle real financial transactions. You work across the stack — mentoring the team on frontend patterns, occasionally contributing backend code when it unblocks the team, and partnering with Product and Design to ship features users actually care about.
Frontend Architecture & Delivery
- Ship impactful features every week, unblocking Product and Design to move fast without accumulating tech debt
- Own and continuously improve the architecture and performance of our products — from code structure to app speed to service reliability
- Monitor production systems closely and lead swift, thoughtful responses when issues arise
Technical Leadership & Standards
- Model the technical practices, code quality, and ownership mindset you expect from the team — your code is your teaching
- Raise the bar across the team and beyond — in code reviews, architectural conversations, and collaboration with other squads
- Drive cross-team technical collaboration, ensuring Frontend, Backend, and Platform teams align on standards and share solutions
Full-Stack Collaboration
- Unblock the team by understanding and occasionally contributing to Backend code — you bridge Frontend and Backend, reading Java when needed and writing it when it helps ship faster
- Partner closely with Backend engineers on API design, data flow, and performance — you come with opinions rooted in user experience
- Collaborate with Product and Design from discovery through delivery, respectfully challenging assumptions when needed to keep shipping simple, impactful features
Quality & Observability
- Set and maintain high standards for testing — unit, integration, and end-to-end — so the team ships with confidence
- Establish monitoring and observability practices that let us catch and fix issues fast, not after users notice them
- Own performance budgets and optimization — you ensure the app stays fast and reliable for real users, including on slower networks
You'll Be Successful In This Role If
- You have 5+ years of experience building production React/TypeScript web applications
- You take genuine ownership — you don't wait to be told what to do, you find problems and fix them
- You're comfortable working across the stack: you might be a frontend-first engineer, but you're not afraid of a Java codebase when the situation calls for it
- You write code that others can understand, extend, and be proud of
- You have experience with modern React patterns — state management (Redux, Zustand, or similar), performance optimisation, testing, and component architecture
- You've worked in a product team before and understand what it means to balance feature velocity with technical quality
- You communicate clearly — in code reviews, in design discussions, and in a cross-functional team where not everyone speaks the same technical language
Nice to Have
- Experience with React Native — teams we collaborate with includes mobile, and engineers who can move between web and mobile are particularly valuable
- Hands-on backend experience (Node.js, Java/Spring) — especially if you've owned an API layer or a BFF
- Fintech, payments, or regulated product experience — you understand what it means to build software where errors have financial consequences
- Experience with micro-frontend architectures, CI/CD pipelines, or design systems
- Familiarity with AI-assisted development workflows
Your Language Profile
- English: Professional working proficiency (required)
Why Epassi
- Meaningful product: You're not building another ad tech tool. You're helping people access lunch, sports, and wellbeing benefits — things that actually improve daily life.
- Real ownership: Senior engineers here set the direction. You'll have room to propose architecture, push back on bad ideas, and influence how the product evolves.
- Growing company, stable foundation: We've been profitable and growing for over 15 years, with serious expansion momentum across Europe. Fast-paced but not chaotic.
- Flexible and remote-friendly: We have offices in Helsinki but support remote work across the EU.
- Strong team: Small squads, experienced engineers, and a culture that values learning and craftsmanship.
- Competitive compensation including Epassi's own employee benefit package (naturally).
A Few Things We Value as a Team
- Shipping working software over perfect software — and fixing it fast when something breaks
- Direct, honest feedback — in code reviews and in planning
- Curiosity — engineers who read, experiment, and bring ideas from outside the building
- Pragmatism — we use the right tool for the job, not the trendiest one
