Professor (W3) of Translational Neuroscience funded by Dr. Senckenbergische Stiftung
The professorship is initially funded by the Dr. Senckenbergische Stiftung. In 2025, Goethe University will continue the Brain Imaging Center together with the Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics and the Ernst Strüngmann Institute for Neuroscience as the Cooperative Brain Imaging Center Frankfurt (CoBIC) and provide new impetus. This is a unique scientific cooperation in the field of human neuroscience. In addition to research and teaching activities, the professorship of Translational Neuroscience is associated with the role of Managing Director of the , initially for a limited period of three years, and will therefore represent an important link to Frankfurt’s non-university neuroscientific research institutions.
We are looking for a strong research personality with good international networks, who combines clinical translation and basic research and at the same time takes on central management and communication tasks, who is well networked in the Rhine Main metropole region’s neuroscience community (rmn2) and brings researchers and clinicians at Goethe University and the Max Planck Society together to create synergies.
We expect therefore many years of experience in setting up and managing an interdisciplinary infrastructure facility involving both university and non-university research institutions. The professorship for Translational Neuroscience will focus on the translational use of imaging techniques. A research profile is therefore expected that uses imaging both to answer scientific questions about the functioning of the healthy human brain and to investigate cerebral dysfunction and its therapy. For optimal thematic integration into the research concept of the CoBIC, a scientific focus on the neurobiology of speech production and speech disorders is expected. In order to be able to represent the diversity of methods of the on a broad basis, the scientific expertise should have a focus in the field of applied magnetic resonance imaging but also include investigations using magnetoencephalography.
Prerequisites for employment include a high scientific qualification (a completed degree in human medicine, a doctorate, habilitation or evidence of equivalent scientific achievements, which could also have been attained within the scope of a junior professorship or outside the academic sector, in one of the neuro subjects of human medicine) with an international publication record, successful acquisition of third-party funding (e.g. in-kind and personal funding by the DFG) and experience in setting up and managing an interdisciplinary infrastructure facility. A constructive willingness for close, interdisciplinary cooperation in research and teaching is a matter of course. In addition, a special commitment to university teaching and excellent didactic skills are expected, evidenced by qualified teaching evaluations or teaching awards. A willingness to contribute to curriculum development and to participate in academic self-administration is a prerequisite.
