About the role:
Wiley’s Comprehensive Editorial Evaluation Team, which is responsible for managing the peer-review process and decision-making for a portfolio of over 120 in-house journals across physical, life, and health sciences, including renowned journals such as Advanced Science , Advanced Materials , Advanced Healthcare Materials , and other Advanced journals, Angewandte Chemie , Chemistry Europe titles, Small , physica status solidi , Aging Cell , and Molecular Nutrition & Food Research , is expanding and looking for an Associate Editor.
How you will make an impact:
- Be responsible for the peer-review process and editorial decision-making from submission until acceptance for publication – initial scientific evaluation of manuscripts to determine suitability (triage), reviewer selection for those passing triage, scientific assessment of reviewer reports and revised manuscripts, and making final editorial decisions regarding publication. You will handle manuscripts independently, including complex editorial cases, and also offer guidance to less experienced (assistant) editors.
- Have many (online) interactions with our authors and reviewers – researchers from all over the world.
- Be an active member of a global editorial team and regularly collaborate with other international colleagues.
- Be proactively involved in cross-functional/departmental projects that may include, but are not limited to, strategic content acquisition for our journals e.g. special issues; development and implementation of training; workflow optimization and more.
We are looking for people who:
- Have at least 2-3 years’ experience as a professional handling editor, and are capable of working independently and efficiently to meet our authors’ expectations.
- Have a PhD degree in the natural sciences; any additional postdoc experience would be beneficial.
- Have experience in biomedical engineering, especially technologies applied in the life sciences.
- Have a passion for science and its communication and are keen to further broaden their knowledge by working across a spectrum of research areas.
- Are self-motivated, diplomatic, and flexible, have outstanding organizational, time management, and communication skills, and have excellent command of the English language (both written and verbal).
- Can collaborate efficiently and effectively on multiple products with many different colleagues in teams across various global office locations.
- Have experience using a manuscript handling system (e.g., Editorial Manager or ScholarOne) and previous publishing/scientific communication experience in a fast-paced environment.
