We are seeking an experienced Construction Safety Manager to act as the Client Construction Safety Representative for major capital projects in Schaffhausen, Switzerland. The successful candidate will provide leadership, oversight, and strategic direction for all construction safety activities, ensuring the highest standards of health, safety, and compliance throughout project execution.
Roles and Responsibilities
Serve as the Client's on-site Construction Safety Representative.
Lead and oversee all construction safety activities throughout the project lifecycle.
Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, corporate safety standards, and site procedures.
Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate construction risks.
Drive a strong safety culture across client teams, construction management partners, contractors, and subcontractors.
Conduct safety audits, inspections, and performance reviews to ensure continuous improvement.
Influence stakeholders at all levels to achieve world‑class safety performance.
Support project teams in integrating safety considerations into planning and execution activities.
Lead incident investigations and ensure effective corrective and preventive actions are implemented.
Champion innovative safety initiatives and continuously improve safety processes, systems, and performance.
Monitor contractor safety performance and ensure accountability against project requirements.
Deliver presentations, training sessions, and safety communications to project stakeholders.
How to Succeed
Minimum 12 years of construction safety experience.
Minimum 5 years of experience as a Safety Lead on projects of similar scale and complexity.
Proven experience working on large industrial, pharmaceutical, petrochemical, manufacturing, or infrastructure projects.
Previous experience within the DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), Denmark, Benelux, or the Netherlands is required.
Experience working within both client and contractor environments.
Strong understanding of construction risk management and project safety leadership.
Good knowledge of project management principles, enabling proactive and preventive safety planning.
Fluency in German & English.
Ability to work independently and make informed, consistent decisions.
Demonstrated capability to influence project teams, operational stakeholders, and contractors.
Strong presentation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Results‑oriented, solutions‑focused mindset with a proactive "can‑do" attitude.
Transparent, straightforward, and collaborative communication style.
This role offers a very competitive hourly rate. This contract will run until December 2026 and is likely to be extended.
